Many here have seen the results of biased reporting and for once would like to see indoor tanning presented in the positive light that most operate with. (It is hard to determine as the regulations vary widely from state to state and country to country) It has been my observation that most Salon Owners do their level best to educate and monitor their future customers for the long term. |

I agree...it does seem suspicious. I know many teens that would be more than happy to talk to you, but ONLY if you are writing an article about the possitive effects of tanning. We (coming from a tanner here, not a salon owner) are sick of people being misinformed by the press regarding tanning and attacking us for being tan. True, skin cancer is a result of EXCESSIVE UV exposure, but check the facts. It takes anywhere from 3-30 years for cancer to appear. Could that be a result of the "tanning on the roof covered in Afro Sheen" generation of the late 70s, 80s, and early 90s? Sorry to jump up on my soap box here, but I'll be the first to tell you that I trust indoor tanning more so than outdoor. I tan smart 3 times a week in a controlled environment where I know exactly how much exposure I'm getting. If I'm going to be outside for longer than 30 minutes, I use a minimum SPF of 30. And, unlike the majority of Americans who are afraid of the "harmful effects of the sun," I don't have a Vitamin D defficiency. I would love to see an article about how safe tanning in moderation actually has great health benefits, and how the risks can be greatly reduced through education. I'll step down now...[ This Message was edited by: Athens Rose on 2005-04-12 10:48 ] |

I'd be more suspicious of people wanting to talk to under age kids... People Magazine or not, and especially a 1st time poster and... with a yahoo account. That's just the parent in me being over protective.

The last thing that people need is another bowlsh*t story abut all the negative stuff. Tanning can and is safe when used safely in moderation. If you don’t wear eye protection and overexpose there’s the problem. Now if a reporter wants a story for the most popular magazine in our area. Then she/he should focus on the real truth about tanning. Not another story about the bad. For any reporter that wants info they should visit www.tanningtruth.com and focus on the mor possitve.

Oh, my! Has this brought up the past!! I used to bask and bask out in the sun when I was younger and heck I went to Maui the last 4 yrs and still laid out all day long and I am in my 40's. To tell you the truth everyone wants the color and it is against regulations to say indoor tanning is safe or better. What causes what?? It's always an issue. I can tell my customers that we control the amount of uv's they are getting, by the length of exposure and skin type and we do go by that. Call us square or whatever, but we do care and I am very compassionate about the salon. I love it!!
