On the otherhand, you don't need to suggest that salons who do provide the eyewear are being GROSS.

After almost seven years, and tens of thousands of sessions, I have never had anyone even hint that they caught anything from my shared eyewear.

If you wish to sell goggles - fine. If you wish to use "scare tactics" to sell goggles - fine too, although not my preferred technique. In my opinion, that suggests things about both the industry, and your salon (since you are changing methods...) that aren't in our best interest. If you wish to sell goggles to make some extra $$ or to prevent theft costs - that's a fine business decision too.

I provide goggles. I sell goggles for those that prefer to own. I have clients that bring them here from other salons they USED to tan at that made them buy too.

Some get stolen, some fall under a bed and turn up later, some get thrown out and we 'find', some get thrown out and get swept into the great dumpster in the sky. Other folks accidentally carry them out with them (towels too!) and sometimes return them and othertimes may not.

We sanitize them, as we sanitize ALL our equipment, and have NEVER had a problem.

Some salons get the reputation for "nickel and diming you" whether it is goggles, trying lotions, how the "Free tans" work. Just like some customers get the reputation for trying to get a "freebie" whenever they can and trying to "deal" you all the time.

I prefer to offer 3 free tans to all newbies (so they can try the equipment and make an informed buying decision), free lotion samples with their free tans (ditto), free goggles provided. My average PPA is huge and issues of theft/vandalism/disrespect for salon or employees is non-existent. Treat others as you want to be treated seems to work for me.

We have all already stated that our goggles have been sanitized. If anyone reads the posts they will see that. Alot of things could be "gross" if you picked them apart and looked at them. I do inform clients on how to properly sanitize their eyewear, and that they need to sanitize it after each use. Even then, whether or not they do it is another story. All you can do is TRY to educate them. I provided eyewear for almost 3 years. I am not about to sit here and criticize those who still do. It's just a service I opted to discontinue.

Well simply sell goggles. I have seen the ugly photos that some companies use to sell goggles and we dont have a one of them anywhere in our salon. I never knocked anyone who offers the "free" goggle thing in their salons. The greatest thing about being a salon owner is you make the rules. I am not telling anyone how to run their salon.

Sure you see the photos, that's advertising, I have never seen anyone that looks that bad whether they shared tanning goggles or not.

Since sunsally and I agree, it should be obvious the case is closed anyway.

Yeah, I think it took them 20 years to come up with those shots. Most are probably from eye doctors and have nothing to do with tanning.
