I am sorry if you were offended. You must be one of those 4% of salons that offer sanitized goggles for your clients use. I am one of the 96% who sell goggles in my salon and would never burden myself with FREE goggle management.
Restuarants and barbershops were brought up but I have never gone to either anywhere in America where you are supposed to bring your own silverware or scissors. In a restaurant the silverware is put through not only a deep hotwater cleaning but sanitized at the end. At a barbershop their scissors NEVER touch my eyes. Come up with some better analogies to get a point across. So far you are 0 for 3. |

We started furnishing them in the beginning as an added courtesy to our customers. When they start taking advantage of me, then that little service stops. If they can afford to tan, they can afford to buy a pair of goggles. Why should I continue to give them the best service in town while they are stealing me blind? Abuse it, LOSE IT! I don't have time to make sure everyone returns their goggles. They are on the bed on a clean towel when the customer enters the tanning room, and if they aren't there when the customer leaves, we don't know if it's because they grabbed them accidentally, if they got picked up with the dirty towel, fell behind the bed, or just got stolen. My bed cleaners are exactly that. They clean beds. They don't have time to run up front to see who returned their goggles. Simply stated, NO MORE GOGGLES!! YIPPEEEEE!! I can still continue to offer excellent customer service and other ways, and my customers are better off using their own goggles or disposables. Why take chances? Anyone see the pictures in the Island Sun Times magazine (I think that was the one)? The blisters on the eyelids was enough to sway my decision toward cutting off the free goggles service!

Like I said earlier - I am sorry if you were offended because 96% of salon owners dont do what you do in YOUR salon. Dont take it as you should be following us. Its your salon. Do what you want to do. Just make better analogies. You wouldnt be defending your position so much if deep down you didnt feel like you were doing something wrong. I could care less if you do it or do not do it. I personally dont and have stated my reasons already. Two reasons: (a) Its Gross and (b) It takes away from the salons ability to make additional revenue (albeit a small % of overal $) via goggle sales. I would rather focus my efforts to making my salon better and cleaner then worrying which vat of goggles is dirty or clean. But hey, thats just me. Throw in all the comments in this thread about people stealing the "free" goggles and I know I made a wise decision to not offer this practice in my salon.

There is a search feature on here. )
Dont believe the %, do a poll. I can tell you from personal experience that there are 15 salons around Baltimore that I personally visited. Only 1 had the used goggle system. So I am pretty sure the 4% is a right #. Maybe higher or lower in some areas but overall I believe in that #. Why does this bother you so much? Thats the real question! |

It bothers me because you are fighting you case based on some statistics that seem to have come to you in a dream rather than being based on any facts.
Here 100% of the tanning facilities provide clean, sanitized, protective eyewear. Yuo have already stated why you don't provide them for free, the true reason, selling them is more money. Now you are making the rest of the salons look bad by stating how gross it is to be sharing. That's all. |

Its my personal opinion. Last time I checked you spout YOUR personal opinions all over this site. Twenty Tans for $20 - Neons opinions enter here. Free Tan Weekend - Thread gets overe 100 responses and over 15% are from YOU. More opinions. I have never infringed on your ability to make your opinions known. Dont act like you can tell me how I am to think. I think sharing goggles (even if they sit in a vat of "sanitizer") is gross. Thats my opinion. I am not stating its a true medical fact. I am stating my opinion. I carry items in my salon that I BELIEVE IN. If my only motive was money I would be whoring every product ever sold in any tanning salon - I do not. I carry certain lotions because I love them and I carry goggles because I feel everyone should own THEIR OWN PAIR. Its $2.50 for God sake! $2.50. No one complains here so why is it that big a deal for you to understand? Just because you offer your clients goggles does not mean I should. And just because I sell goggles doesnt imply you need to. We own our own salons and as you have stated many times you are in the bizarro world of tanning. We obviously are entitled to do things differently.

Sizzles said it all...goggle "management"! It is a pain trying to keep track of them. We offer TANNING as the service. We aren't asking them to bring their own tanning bed. Do we supply lotion for them too? Okay, I guess some do offer free samples, but even then, there are those who will take advantage of that too and never buy a bottle. No I wouldn't bring my own eating utensils to a restaurant. But restaurants don't have millions of dead skin cells floating around landing on the utensils nor do they sanitize the plates and utensils in the same water that the last plate was washed in either. This whole thing is besides the point. I choose not to supply goggles as do some other salons. This doesn't mean that the quality of my service is lower than any salon who does. Sorry to upset you Neon, but I honestly think you are just trying to have some fun and ruffle some feathers here. I know you better!
