I am wanting a music system in my salon that I can pay for one time (no monthly fees) that my customers can plug their headphones directly into offering several different styles of music...anyone point me in the right direction?

No such thing.....To be completely legal you will have to pay fees either yearly or monthly. Sirius or XM offer a system for salons and doctor's offices.
The truth of the matter is we all should be paying for a music service. Not that I do but ASCAP and BMI are the two originations that collect royalties for music writers. Technically, it’s illegal to provide radios in a business that’s open to the public. Every now and again ASCAP and BMI go on a nationwide rampage to enforce the copyright laws. Several years back they came through this area and busted most of the businesses in the 6 malls in our area. They do have the power to impose fines. Sometimes heavy at that! I’ve often wondered when they will take on the tanning industry. When they do, we’ll all have to change our way of providing music to the customer. For those of you who think this is BS. Please visit either of these: http://www.ascap.com/legislation/legis_points.html Or http://www.bmi.com/licensing/business/groupb/faq/retail_questions.asp Don’t shoot the “me” the messenger. I just thought everyone would like to know the law. |
