Our salon was damaged by water from the resteraunt next door. They agreed to accept it as an insurance claim, and we are going thru the mall management to assist us. Photo's of the damage were applied. I learned on Friday that the three tile companies I used to get the bids for repair of the wall (plaster board... frame is rusted out on the door from long term damage and the woodwork is suspicious) that they are unnacceptable by the management because the plaster people are not certified. I'll have to go thru a general contractor to get all of this done. I called a contractor consultant on Friday and he just called me back this morning. He's going to meet me there today to look at the damage and get an idea of which would be the best way to proceed. We figured that since work has to be done, might as well upgrade while we are there even if we have to chip in more money than expected, but as long as the resteraunt next door covers the actual costs of their damages I'll be satisfied. The fustration comes in knowing that the contractors want to screw us for the most they can get, the resteraunt wants to minimize it, and we want things fixed better than before..... any ideas? And yes, this was a little rat trap of a salon when we bought it.... the recent damage made things much, much worse.

No. Management of the mall requested that I get bids for the repairs. If the repairs are within reason then the resteraunt will pay for damages. If it is excessive then they will send it thru the mall management against the resteraunt as an insurance claim. I am sure that once the insurance company sees it they will send their own adjustor out, give us a maximum price and we will go from there. Until then, I'm moving forward as if nobody knows what they are doing and taking charge. I don't want the insurance company telling me what my limits are until I know exactally the full extent to the damages and what it will reasonably cost to fix it. Why give them the upper hand? Remember, I still plan to complete upgrading the entire area beyond the damages as well and might as well get it done with the design and materials that I want to have.
