Recently ran across a salons website that stated they had co-ed tanning rooms. Why? Anyone know what the advantages for either the salon or the clients (besides the obvious for the clients)? I understand they are in New York state which ahs regs, but have not yet implemented them. Any thoughts?

In Texas its against the law to have more than one person in the tanning room with the door closed and the bed on. In the "certain" parts of town there are places that are called "Asian Tan", "Pink Rose China Tan", (you can only imagine what goes on there). When we first opened our place several years ago I decided to go into one of these places that are "co-ed tanning" just to see what was going on. I opened the door to a VERY small poorly lighted lobby area, kind of like a check cashing place atmosphere -- a large glass window overlooking the empty front area, nothing on the walls, a couple of plastic chairs with chrome metal legs, and I was greeted at the door by a 50ish Oriental woman in one of those very flowery satin robe thingies.
She says to me "Can I hep you preese?". "Uh yeah, I want to tan." "No you at the rong prace" "Well, it says Japanese Tan on your sign, do you have tanning beds?" At this time of couple of younger Oriental girls are poking there heads out from rooms down the hall. "No, no! you want tan you go up the street" She gives me an ugly look and PUSHES me out the door. No tan for me. |

Yup! Two beds in the same room, I contacted them and asked why, they said: boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, friends, boyfriend/boyfriend, girlfriend/girlfriend. So as I say, I can see some obvious advantages for the clients, but what's the incentive for the salon to even consider it. In case the salon is reading, no offence, I just don't get it. Just seems a bit "slimy" to me.
