Hi! I am planning to open a salon in Texas. Does anyone have any advice?? I do not know where to start...what licenses are necessary, how much do I need to invest for a 4-5 bed salon? Your response is much needed!

I am in the process of opening a salon in Indiana. Looking at 3 beds and hvlp. If anyone has any feedback on best beds and spray it would be appreciated.

My question is what licenses are required to open a salon in Texas? Also, what is the cost of getting the licenses or certifications? Any other information is much needed!!

Oh yeah, How many beds and what different level selections would you suggest? I don't want too many to start off with, but I don't want to turn people down!

saras55~read the thread "every newbie should read this..." a ton of info about what to look for when your starting. Could be a little updated, but overall a good place to start.

I'm not from Texas, but I'd imagine you'd need your local city business license around $50.00, State Salon license maybe $100.00 and I don't think you'd need certification but I'm not sure, as I said, about Texas.

In Texas you just need Tax certificate which is free I think (get at the local Comptrollers office) and a Texas Health certificate. The health certificate costs $200 a year. You can get an application online at the Texas Health Department web site. Fill it out with a check and mail it in. You'll get your cert in the mail in a few weeks. Nothing else is needed besides some beds and a whole lot of cash.
