First of all I do carry some of the older Supre products. People see them and are familar with them. It is an easy sell. I sell alot of the Skin System tinted lotion - it is a good moisturizer. For the last 3 years I have not carried any of thier new products and will not carry any of thier new products ever again. Which means eventually I will carry no Supre products. We all Know that Supre says "we are salon friendly" we all also know that this is not true.
It is one thing to let drug stores carry your product it is another to let them have a display case. Yes I was in a drug store yesterday and not only did they have vibe, mega vibe, hempz and hempz hot, etc. but it was in a supre display case. I am not talking about a cardboard display I am talking about a nice glass and fiberglass display case. How many salons have been able to afford these cases - I know I would never buy one. I also have to guess if you have multiple locations (national drug store chain) You probably get a few of these cases for free. If this is salon friendly then I guess we can call Sheila people friendly (he he). |

I dropped SUPRE also, I have had numerous customers bring in their own bottles of HEMPZ Bronzing Accelerator that they still had the price tag on them from a store 20 minutes from my salon. This wholesale place is selling them for $22.95. Forget Supre, except for the HEMPZ moisterizer- which is a great product, and they cost us salon owners about $7 each.

I feel the same way you do 250, and I'll say it again....At one of our Smart Tan training sessions here in town Supre made a presentation telling everyone how great their products are, blah, blah. At the end of the shpiel came the q&a time so I asked their guy (VP of Supre I think) if they still planned on selling their lotions at the beauty supply shops and local corner drugstores. He hemmed and hawed and said he had no idea the DRUGSTORES were selling Supre, but he would check on it. He said that they would try to not sell to anyone else but the beauty supply industry. THAT's FINE. SELL TO WHOMEVER YOU WANT. We just cant sell Supre lotion for their "suggested retail price" of $39 when it sells at Costco and Eckerd's for $19.95.....pretty much OUR COST. I have no problem with their lotions but like everyone else says, you can find it in all the beauty supply stores. I've even had customers walk in and say "wow, i got my Vibe at Eckerd's and it cost me half of what youre selling it for".
If salons continue dropping the Supre line then they will HAVE to sell to more drugstores. Maybe that's what's happening. They can w-hore out their stuff to everyone -- who cares. They are obviously going to do what benefits them the most...that's just biz. There is so much competition in the lotion industry today they are probably making more money selling to the general public. Supre obviously DOES NOT CARE about being tanning salon exclusive -- and thats OK. Just dont lie about it and try to keep Supre product in salons by telling owners they are NOT selling to these other outlets. |

I hate Supre. The only lotion I've ever used and liked from them was Impact but I think they changed it because its not as good as it used to be. I refuse to carry any lotion that's sold somewhere other than professional salons. Australian Gold is out, All Supre lines are out, I won't even carry Swedish Beauty anymore. I'm lucky because the chain stores around me don't carry those products...I'm sure at some point they will though.

If someone comes in to ask if I carry Supre, I always show them something "better" than whatever Supre they say they had. They use a cup of my "better" product and end up buying a bottle of it. I quit carrying Supre a couple of months ago. I just have a few packets of Hempz Hot accelerator to get rid of. I will probably take it home with me and use it in my bed at home.

We have had the same issues with Supre in our area. So, we went to the beauty supply industry who is selling these to the hair places and questioned if we could buy the hair products. At first they said no and tured us away. My partner and I went back a second time and requested them to call their headquarter because we asked them if this was discrimination. Allowing hair salons to buy our products but tanning owners not to buy their products. The answer came back that yes we could purchase these at the same cost hair salons get their products for. We now carry full lines of hair and nail products in our salon Back to Basic and Bed Head. When clients come in, who are hair dressers and ask how we are able to sell these we tell them the same way you are able to sell our products. So we are betting them at their own game. Not only do we carry the hair products, we allow our customers to earn free tanning if they buy their shampoos, conditioners and hair sprays with us. We also attach free tanning to our tanning lotions to keep our customers buying lotions with us vs at their hair salon.
Something to think about..... |

We don't discount our lotions ever because of the free sessions attached to the bottle. Depending on the lotion price is the level of bed they get, we have 4 different levels. But we do not sell Supre so there is no competition on the lotion. And with every $10 spent on hair care products they can earn free tanning.
