Electricbeach, rufus is right. You need to keep at least one eye on what your competition is doing so that you don't turn around one day to see them flying past you!
You are right on not lowering your prices to meet theirs, though. You know what you offer is worth the price you charge! As my mom says to anyone who asks why we are the most expensive salon in our area..."We may not be the cheapest, but we ARE THE BEST!" And to prove that, we have a waiting list of over two weeks during our busy season. We have about 6 other salons within about 10 to 15 miles. None of the rest have such a waiting list! Don't lower your prices to meet or beat theirs! If you are getting customers from them, it isn't because of your prices, it is because of YOUR SERVICE! |

Now that is funny to answer with their name! Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall to see their face. They could at least be smart enough to use a cell phone that won't show up on caller ID.

I have caller id but competition has learned to *?? before the # so their # comes up as a blocked call or private caller...so I just do not pick up those calls, if it is a customer they can leave their name and number and I will give them a call back..

Every industry "spies" on it's competition and if you aren't spying, maybe you should. When I worked for a large retail store, we were asked to go to the competition's store to purchase certain things on our list. We were then asked to evaluate our shopping experience, customer service, price, atmosphere, etc. You don't have to "copy" your competition, but at least you have some knowledge of how they operate, customer service, price, atmosphere, etc. Just my 2 cents.

Sunstruck~ I had someone come in and say she was from a competing salon here in town and that she was sick of hearing about one of our high pressure beds, and decided that she wanted to try it for herself. I asked her if she had been here before and she stated No. Well as I entered her information I noticed that she had in fact been here before and still had tans left on her account. It would have only cost her 1/2 of what she paid to tan had she been honest with me. I let her pay full price (two times on seperate occasions)to tan in our HP unit and didnt tell her that she still had tans left in which she would have only had to pay the upgrade fee. She was so snotty I couldent help myself. My bad
