I encourage each of you to contact your local news organizations (which ran this story) and try to set up an interview to show the inconsistancies and incorrect assumptions of this study. Use your smartan materials and also give them the smartan philosophy of tanning (Moderate indoor tanning- for those who can develop a tan- is the smartest way to maximize the potential benefits of sun exposure while minimizingg the potential risks associated with either too much or too little sunlight)
We discourage type 1 skin types from tanning, and this is the skin type of most scandinavians. Let the newspeople know that we recognize the potential hazards to sun exposure (whether in salons or outside) by this skin type. So call your local news organizations. Most legitimate news organizations will listen to and report
qualified counterpoints. We may as an industry turn this report into somthing positive. If we can get enough people showing the errors in this report, we can make a difference. It all starts with you. Don't assume the salon down the road will do somthing so you don't have too.
If your newspaper won't print conflicting views to published reports you can write a letter to the editor and show the inconsistencies of this study.
