Greetings Everyone
I’m looking in to the possibility establishing a salon in a big city, downtown amongst the high-rises. Most of the location related posts I’ve seen seem to be from areas with strip malls. Does anyone know where I might get information what makes a good city location? I’ve seen areas that are primarily offices, areas that are more residential and mixed areas. Anyone here have a salon or salon experience in the city? Would a street visible second floor location work? Would a location not visible from the street work? Do you know anyone I could talk with for advise? Any guidance would be appreciated. |

I have a lot of people who don't live anywhere near the salon, but it is close to their work. They can tan on their lunch hour or right after work before they head home.

Parking will probably be your only issue, I believe if you build it they will come, but they have to have parking, not unless you are walking distance. Lunch timers will love it and those who find it convinent to stop by on the way home. Thats what most of my clients do.

Your suggestions make sense. Parking will be an issue as the rates are probably close to or exceed that of a base tan. I would expect most tanners to be on foot or possibly taxi. Once a car is parked most will leave it because of the parking expense. The thinking is that customers would include lunch timers, after workers, and local residents. I need to look into the residential demographics but because of the parking will probably be looking more at 1/2 to 1 mi. radius. And, of course rents - don't have a clue. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I had considered the same idea..but nixed it. Unless there is a heavy reidential lot to draw from (apartments/condos), it would fail...there will be little weekend traffic for you to draw from..and most people will not drive back into the city to tan, once they are home AWAY from work..especially on a Sat/Sunday..
