I can laugh about it now, but our first year in business, I had a client show up at my door(my home not the business) crying. I was concerned. "I just thought you should know what's going on at your business. I was just there and they locked the door when they saw me coming. I knocked and I could see them hiding." The way she started this conversation, I thought we were being robbed. I almost laughed. I told her it was 9:30 and we closed at 10:00(we do walk ins no appts)"But it wasn't 9:30 yet. I was laying at home on the couch & noticed it was 23 after & thought I better get to the tanning salon."
Backstory- this girl was actually hired by us , but called after her orientation and quit. She knew our business hours. What she didn't know is that my mother in law runs the shop for us at night & the only reason I opened the door was because I thought it was her coming home. I know my employees better than that & our policy is not to open the door to clients after closing for safety reasons. She kept insisting that it wasn't 9:30 yet. "Did you ever think that your clock may be slower than ours?" She said she saw the clock when she looked through the window and it wasn't. I didn't tell her that the clock would've been hanging above her head facing the other direction. She told me how inconsiderate it was of them and I asked her if she didn't think it a little inconsiderate to be the last one in every night, when she wasn't doing anything but waiting around until 5 min before we close every night. I usually check to see who the last one in is. You don't think it's inconsiderate to interrupt the little bit of personal time I have with me family because you can't tan. this could've waited until the next day. She just couldn't believe I'd insulted her, but my husband & I both work at Honda and I had taken a day off to be with him to have it ruined. Well I'll just take my business elsewhere. That I wasn't concerned about. But I was worried about bad word of mouth. "Do you want me to go down there and let you tan?" "No" still crying. "well, you must want something, if you came here." Anyway she didn't accept my offer to go down and let her in, but thank god she's never come back. And get this- she used to work at a salon. Moral of the story- Don't let your neighborhood newsletter let everyone know that you own a tanning salon. |

We have a "30 minutes before closing rule", but it hasn't stopped one particular individual from pulling this same stunt for TWO years. She is now opening her own salon and I've done some consulting work for her, but she STILL shows up late!!!
