Here's the backround of the story first, yesterday I was supposed to go to the Yankee game with my husband, but my brother really wanted to go so I gave him my ticket and he went with my husband, when I go to a yankee game we usually leave real early because we tailgate.
One of my employees called my salon when I wasn't there yesterday and said to the girl on duty, I can't make it in my grandmother had catarac surgery and she really needs me to be with her, so the employee on duty said well you better call Allison on her cell phone and see what she says because you are supposed to be here in a half hour, so the catarac gramndma employee says to the employee on duty well isn't she at the Yankee game, so my employee on duty said yes but she has her cell phone. So she called me and said my grandmother had catarac surgery today and she really needs me to stay with her, so I looked at my watch and said you are supposed to be at work in a half hour, she said I know but I am in long island at my grandmothers, I said ok well I'll let it slide this time and I'll call some of the employees and see if anyone can work. So I called the girl who was on duty and she volunteered to get the extra hours. Ok so no problem right? I don't think so Well being that my husband was at the game I figured i would take the opportunity to go out with some of my girlfriends, so we went to a sports bar in Jersey to watch the game have a few drinks and eat. While sitting at the bar I noticed this chick who looked awfully familiar, and as I looked closer guess who my employee who was supposed to be with her grandmother in Long island, funny thing is she didn;t notice me, so I casually went over to her group and said can I buy you a drink, her face was priceless, she started to explain or actually give me some bs, I just told her I woukd talk about it with her tomorrow, ok tomorrow is here what do I say? I definatly need help with this one, I have an idea of what I'm going to say to her but I don't know for sure. |

OK well I've been on the phone with this employee for the last 5 minutes and so far it is going like this..
She called up and said, listen I know I lied yesterday but I really wanted to go out with my friends. I said well there was no reason to lie, you have worked for me for a year and a half and you know that you can come to me with anything no matter how big or small. She responds I know but I was calling out at the last minute, and I didn't want to have anyone mad at me. I responded so instead you lied and have me mad at you. She responds I'm sorry, and I think that it is best that I leave because I don't want anyone talking bad about me. I respond, your right I think that that is best, I can't have people working for me that I can't trust. She responds Really? I respond Yes you can pick our check up on friday. **OK now forst of all she didn't come in to talk to me directly and I frown on that, second she was the one who offered to leave which made my job easier, and what did she expect me to beg her to stay? Yes she has worked for me for a year and a half but she only works three days a week because she goes to college, plus the other employees have been looking for extra hours, so problem solved.. |

Question... how many hours a week did this gal work for you. Don't let her file unemployment. She is not entitled to it. Document all of this as you go. I would have a letter of voluntary dismissal ready to go and attached to her last check, for her to sign. Get her signature. If she refuses to sign, write "refused to sign" date it and you and a witness sign it. CYA Allison... please.

In Kansas this girl would get unemployment anyway. The amount of hours she works does not matter and the fact that she lied about not coming to work does not seem to matter to them either.
