Thanks for the links, I'm going to check them out today. I agree with you, I have only tanned once without eye protection and my eyes felt like they were filled with sand for two days following. I also plan on making eye protection available for purchase, but won't be providing shared goggles for health reasons.Again, thank you.Laurie

Read the instructions that come with the lamps. The warnings are very clear. We have had sold goggles in our salon for over 3 years now.We no longer loan goggles for hygienic reasons. We have regular plastic and disposable. All clients buy their own and we have never had anyone say I won't tan here if I don't get free goggles. It is best to carry a number of different types of goggles as the shape of them makes some fit and provide better uv protection then other depending on face shape. It provides extra income, a plus, and we tell our clients to use them when tanning outdoors as well, to protect their eyes.It have been a positive experience for all.

People here have said they damaged their eyes and some have said they know medical profesanals that through thier actions know little or nothing about the effects of tanning safely. You have to get as much information from as many sources as you can and use a little common sense.

I know no one ever really addressed the question concerning pregnant women tanning...But when I was pregnant my midwife advised me to avoid certain activities that could raise my internal body temperature. Indoor tanning was one of them. Anything that significantly raises an internal body temp should be avoided.I hope that answered the question at least somewhat.Laurie

nicely said Chippp..... I believe Dr. Mercola FIRST mentioned emf's in 2002 but some would have you think he invented the idea!

Re: Pregnancy/eye protection???

Wearing goggles won't protect against getting pregnant!!

Oh, wait, I read that wrong!
Eyes closed blocks 25% of the UV light, Goggles block 99%.
Tanning provides vitamin D...good for mom and baby!!

Re: Pregnancy/eye protection???

You must wear eye protection!! That is the most important thing! I don't tan pregnant women not because its harmful but I don't want to get into anything like a lawsuit, just being safe than sorry but for the 12 years I've been open i have never had a preg woman ask to tan, i had one that became preg and she called to tell me that she was preg and didn't want to. So it really hasn't been an issue for me. I live in the south and most women who are preg shy away from it I think its just the heat being hot outside and believe me I was preg in the summer and you don't want to force heat on you while preg I stayed hot all the time without the help of a tanning bed. LOL

Re: Pregnancy/eye protection???

Ah, the lovely "well, can't I just close my eyes" or "put a towel over my face".

I got so sick of this, I contacted Eyepro and they sent me a flipchart and laminated 8.5x11 poster that I have put on my front counter.

It has pictures of what happens to your eyes if you don't use your eyewear (let me just say, it's a great scare tactic).

And the flipchart is a quiz with 9 questions pertaining to eyewear. And it contains the above asked questions with detailed answers as to why you must use eyewear.

Just this other day, a woman in her mid-50's came in, a new client, I asked if she had eyewear and she responded with the "well, I close my eyes". I grabbed the chart and showed her the answer to that question. Then she said, "ok, I'll just use a towel" flipped the chart to that one. Needless, to say she bought eyewear and the person behind her did too.

Great education tool (and selling tool)
