I very much doubt that Steve could keep a salon open for a few years in today's market. We will never know for sure, because he seems too scared to try. He sure will tell others how to run things though! |

What really gets me is - How and why did all these hundreds of salon owners you help get into this biz in the first place. There NOTHING you can teach salons owners that they cant find for free just by searching this site. | |

Rep Power: 23 | Re: Steve-bashing and SMU Consulting I don't know Steve, but I do know the 2 salons that have posted on here that have used him. They are successful, long running salons that do exist. There are other consultants in this business also, such as Karrera Consulting, they own a very successful chain of salons in the Northwest.

Rep Power: 16 | Re: Steve-bashing and SMU Consulting I promised myself I was gonna keep my naughty lil fingers off this thread.....FAIL. Oh well. John's right. There ARE other consulting services besides Steve. Even our own incredibly knowledgeable and amazingly helpful SunSally. SunSally does paid consulting but in addition, she does alot of pro bono work for peeps on this site. I asked her why one time and her answer was: "because I care about this industry suceeding". I personally believe her to be one of the noblest people I know and I have immense respect for her. I would HATE to see her have to be grouped into having to pay for an ad when she has dedicated time and energy for free to many. If everyone keeps pushing it, thats what would end up happening as you can't demand that from one & not the other, right? Maybe the problem alot are having is that unlike the others that provide consulting services, Steve seems to be hijacking almost EVERY SINGLE THREAD w/the exception of equipment repairs and sales. It comes off as distatseful ambulance chasing and it becomes annoying to have the same info regurgitated and stuffed down your throat over and over. Now don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Steve, or Steve making a living consulting. But I do wonder if Steve were to exercise some discretion by creating his own threads for drumming up biz and that way the member(s) could ask/post relevant questions or sign up with him there? Instead of telling long time seasoned vets they are dinosaurs, doing it wrong and there are no problems w/our industry whatsoever? Sure, we don't have to read every hijacked thread and post that Steve does, but maybe this is my attempt at tactfully suggesting to Steve that it's time to chill out a bit? Meh. Advice, like anything...take what ya want & throw the rest away

Rep Power: 14 | Re: Steve-bashing and SMU Consulting TOTALLY AGREE.. If I had a choice btw the two, Ann gets my business. If you read any of her post, there is no hint to the fact she does consulting. Her words/posting 'speak' advice and help. There is a tone of willingness to help and see 'you' succeed. On the other hand, and I mean no offense to Steve, when I read his postings, I can't help but feel I am dealing with a used car salesman. He simply tells you what he knows you want to hear. As I had previously stated, his postings have no 'fresh idea' feel to them SunSally's on the other hand, completely different every writing. Pull up an old post of Steve's from 5-10 years ago, the same advice, almost verbatim. Strangely from a 'consultant' who is always suggesting new ideas and to contact him to talk and see how and what 'you' are doing wrong. And as many good testimonials that may be out there, how many bad are there. You can not, IMO, get better advice than from the SBA and SCORE consultants that are available for free. Also, there are retail-consultants that are available. One does not have to be 'tan wise'. This is a business of retail selling..tanning only one specific of the total sale. |
