Rep Power: 0 | Tanning Business purchased - need help adding services We just completed a purchase of a tanning salon. The salon has been running and is decently profitable. Currently it has this equipment: Tan America VIP 3200 HO x 5 Tan America VIP 3200 HO SE Facial x 3 Tan America VIP 3200 HO SE x 1 Heartland Sun Dazzler Stand up x 1 Mystic MT 3000 Iwata Airbrish system I am considering the following investments and would like to ask the forum for feedback on how to prioritize these upgrades: - Facelift: The place is clean but a little drap. Considering painting, perhaps tiling (currently carpet) and adding nicer shelving for product display - Considering an alternate to the Mystic MT. Want to replace one of the tanning beds from the list above with a Versaspa, Pura or Ergoline sunless. I want to keep both the Mystic MT and add another sunless version. Thoughts about this? - Also considering Hydration Therapy and Teethwhitening. I probably wont do all of the above but seriously considering bed upgrades from that list as I am not sure how old these units are and if this is the right "variety" as far as tanning levels are concerned? Also seriously considering versaspa or the alternates as I am told many customers do inquire about it. Any other areas I should prioritize for investment over those listed above? Thanks for any help, we are very excited about this new venture! |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Tanning Business purchased - need help adding services To start with, don't get too excited with hydration therapy and teethwhitening. Just a fad, that will soon just sit there and collect dust. You must first tend to getting some newer equipment, and giving the salon a facelift--carpeting must go. This salon is so 90s, and must get more trendy. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Tanning Business purchased - need help adding services Thanks, thats kind of what I was thinking. For equipment upgrade, what am I looking for really? Do I need higher output beds? Do I just need fancier looking beds? From what I understand these beds are old but function fine and tan well. So what is my criteria for upgrades and are there any recommendations (or products to stay away from)? The salon is 90s - good customer base but it certainly has an antiquated look. |

You must make changes with trends of the industry. Adding services unrelated to tanning should be done after you have done everything to maximize income potential from tanning services

Many contractors thru Home Depot/Lowes etc, if you do not want to handle alone (tedious/messy) http://www.concretenetwork.com/stain...FYFQ7AodGCIAUw and for sure...upgrade beds..many good pre-owned with all salon closings, surely Austin must have a few |

Rep Power: 13 | Re: Tanning Business purchased - need help adding services I would keep this as your base bed Tan America VIP 3200 HO SE Facial x 3 and the stand up...replace the rest of them with used upgrades. Lots of them in the market now with so many salons closing :) |

It will depend on....... 1. How much money do you have to spend in total? 2. What are currently the most used - and least used - units. 3. What units are in the best - and worst - condition. 4. What room sizes do you have available? 5. What electrical and HVAC do you have available? 6. What pricing do you have now - and what is typical in your market? 7. What sort of competition do you face? What do they have for equipment? In general - yes, you are interested in better PERFORMING units - not just "fancier looking". What you have are nice, solid units - but the 8 laydown beds are pretty much the same, just different lamps and some facials in a few of them. You don't necessarily have to spend a lot....to significantly upgrade the performance of what you have available!
