Is Tanning trending down, up or going even?

I am considering purchasing a tanning business that is for sale. But I was wondering if the general trend for tanning is on the uptrend or downtrend. Any opinions or factual information?

Tough to get honest and non bias feedback here. I have a post on this topic in the US and Canadian forum. This discussion is helpful for everyone:

Fading quicker than a cheap tan..

In Australia, all tanning will be banned effective 01-2015.

Don't think the trend will not sweep thru Europe and the USA

A STATE Government ban on solariums will reduce the number of potentially deadly melanomas diagnosed in South Australia, the Cancer Council says.

Health Minister John Hill yesterday announced commercial sun beds would be banned from 2015 because of mounting evidence about their negative health impacts.

"There is strong evidence that using sun beds increases the risk of health impacts on users including the occurrence of melanomas," Mr Hill said.
The South Australian ban follows similar regulations being introduced in NSW from the end of 2014.

The NSW Government introduced its ban in February, five years after the death of Clare Oliver, a 26.year-old melanoma victim who spent her final days campaigning against the sunbeds she believed had contributed to her cancer.

Australia has the highest melanoma rate in the world, with 400 people dying each year.

Cancer Council SA and other anti-solarium groups welcomed the ban, while businesses say more die from cigarette smoking and alcoholism - neither of which is banned.

Research published in the British Medical Journal in July found people who used sun beds had a 20 per cent increased risk of melanoma, while the risk of melanoma doubled when use started before the age of 35 years.
State Environment Minister Paul Caica said the risk to all users was just too high.

"In light of this, the Government has made the decision to implement a ban on the commercial use of cosmetic tanning units from December 31, 2014," Mr Caica said. "We will now work with the existing registered businesses towards adapting to this measure."

Laws already prevent South Australians under 18 and those with fair skin from using subeds.

Cancer Council SA chief executive Professor Brenda Wilson said the International Agency for Research on Cancer regarded UV-emitting tanning beds as a Grade 1 carcinogen - the highest risk category and equal to that of smoking. "Ultimately, the lives of many young image-conscious SA will be saved," Prof Wilson said.

The founder of sunbedban.com, melanoma survivor Jay Allen, said the ban was an important step forward for cancer prevention in SA.
"No tan is worth dying for," he said.

Bronze Bodies co-owner Kim Burton said solarium tanning accounted for about one-third of her firm's sales. She said strict tanning guidelines were already in place.
