Post card mail out

I am going to try a direct mail post card mail out and was wondering if anyone has had much luck with this. Also, what do you suggest I put on it? Free tan, any level? What has worked best for any one that has done this?

For this time of year, your best bet will be to:

a. Mail out to your data base (KNOWN tanners)

b. Make a longer term, "too good to be true" type offer. For example "Tan for summer for $69, Tan 'till the end of the year for $99". Realistically, you won't have it in their hands for at LEAST another 2 weeks so that gives them July/Aug and a little bit of June for $69 (about $25/mo or more than EFT would be) and 6 months for about $18/mo (or about EFT pricing).

"One free tan" is never a good offer (need a multiple visit offer to try to give you time to get them committed) and especially now as the "season" is ending and people are less interested in tanning.

If you want to do a mailout to NON-customers at this time of year, make it a select group of those that BEST match your current customer data base (e.g. age, gender, distance/neighborhoods from your salon).

You will get a much better return from direct mail when you send it at the beginning of the season (e.g. Jan/Feb/March) but an offer like this should drive SOME interest, but do it ASAP as the closer you get to July 4 and JASON, the less interest anyone will show no matter what the offer.

Re: Post card mail out

Thank you for the advise. I will wait until February to do the mail out then. Don't want to waist the money on what is probably going to be a dead summer anyway, regardless..

Re: Post card mail out

I know, this is crazy. Today is the slowest day I think I have had and so was yesterday. 1 tanner/hour average, and it is not even JASON yet, officially..
I can understand the "some good, some bad" days. But this has been a daily decline for us.

Any more, it would be a good day to have made it to $100 in sales. Avg day in May was $280 for us anyway. Hopefully our business is still growing after this first year. I have never had all the 10 uv units being used at the same time, but I heard from a client who came from my competitor that THEY were always so busy. I don't get it.... I have equal equipment, better prices, and a huge waiting area.

Our first year was like this but it very quickly took off. Our comp was always slammed but we kept getting busier and busier until now we're the busy one and they're the slow one.

We offer the BEST customer service, CLEANEST salon with the ABSOLUTE BEST environment, and good equipment.

Once we opened the doors we never looked back we always look forward. Meaning we don't shop or bad mouth our competition for any reason whatsoever. Nor do we allow our workers to do so.
