Rep Power: 0 | I've made it a year.. I haven't posted very much in the last year, but have read a lot of posts.. Let me start by telling you about my situation.. I was one of those idiots that knew nothing about owning a tanning salon, but for some reason thought it would be a good idea to buy one. I was friends with the old owners, and needless to say, we're not friends anymore. They basically lied about everything they could, and I was way to trusting.. They also had a very bad reputation, which we have slowly tried to build back up. I took over a Hollywood Tans, but got out of the franchise. The equipment isn't great, but we stay on top of changing the lamps. After the first few months of owning it, I basically cried myself to sleep every night for being such a fool. Now we've been here a year, and are doing so much better then I had expected a few months into it. It's no where close to where I want it to be, but we're making it. Even though I haven't posted a lot, I have gotten a lot of useful information from this site. So thanks to all of you for indirectly helping me become less of a moron to the tanning business.. :) |

We gave them $20,000 dep, and when the bank got a hold of the REAL P&L, no loan for us, and the "friends" won't give the deposit back. That was 1 1/2 years ago and I'm still paying back for that deposit, with interest. (It is in the courts now) They never did sell and are now our competitors as we foolishly started our own business and have, like you, cried many nights and have done alot of praying. Been in business almost a year now and it has been hard to stay positive some days, but I have way too much to loose to not keep going forward. I read posts on here everyday. Great information, (but some things can be depressing as far as the industry goes.) We too, are just making it, but then that is expected as any new business would be. Thanks for posting, and you are not alone. People on Tan Talk can be very supportive, so hang in there... Good luck to you and everyone in the start of busy season. |

Thankyou@sunrisetan I started posting here months before I opened and "SunSally" is the one person that saved me from making even more mistakes than I allready had. I honestly don't think I would have made it without her this far, anyway. She sent me a pm, which led to alot of personal phone calls, and was the one person I called on my first day I opened. She was the most important contact in my life at the time, and I thank God for her amazing knowledge and advise. |
