If it was me I'd look around for a new location and open in direct competition. If you're going to spend money on a salon, you might as well get what you really want to begin with. It doesn't have to be over the top; keep it manageable for your financial situation with room for expansion down the road. Consider your first three years as personal training for you and your staff.
Make sure of the electrical and all the other aspects before you spend a dime.
Remember when you're selling a business you will crow about how much money it makes to a prospective buyer and when you're buying a business you have to know all the hidden costs and problems.
Sometimes little things can really toss a wrench into things; like how to clean the beds or how easy or difficult are they to clean? (I don't mean wiping them out)
Also, how much weight will the acrylic withstand (think 300 lb tanning wrestlers). When were the acrylics last replaced?
Is the software user friendly? Are there technicians and parts easily available should a bed stop working?
Are the tanning rooms large enough to accommodate upgrading?
What percentage of that 7-12 mile population radius actually tan?

There's a lot to think about when you buy what might look like a turn-key operation, but is it someone elses problems?
Yeah, if it were me, I'd plan out a small operation of my own and build my own clients through my own services.
Just my opinion though...
