Hello & a Pricing Question

Hello

I am relatively new to the business, my husband and I just bought our 1st salon. We purchased an existing business that needs a little work. I am grateful that I found this site, I have found a lot of great info.

One of my biggest obstacles is the pricing. We are currently priced at about half of other local salons. Honestly, the age of the beds probably justified that. Now, we are bringing in newer (and new) beds and I want to price accordingly. I think bringing up the pricing to where it should be will alienate our current customers. I would love to hear your suggestions...should I bite the bullet and raise the prices to current market rates or would it be a better business move to gradually raise pricing over the next few months?

Thanks! I look forward to meeting you all!

Re: Hello & a Pricing Question

Post your current mix of equipment and pricing and then the new equipment you are getting in. Or if you prefer - send me a PM with your email and I'll help you that way.

Also -

How many customers do you have coming in a day right now (on average)?

How many (on average) were they seeing last March (busy season)?

And finally -- what are the most popular packages now - e.g. month unlimited, walk-in singles, 10 visit package,...

Re: Hello & a Pricing Question

It all comes down to lamps and cleanliness. Never price based on age. If you do, you may not be educating your clients enough because in the end, it does not matter too much.

You could consider raising prices but grandfathering in current clients for the current season. So your regular will not go into sticker shock. Or better yet (for you), raise them but only slightly for existing. Although dont say its raising, say they are getting a DISCOUNT from the new prices. But for clients who have been gone for more than 6 months = new pricing.

Either way you have to justify raising prices if you do. If the beds tan the same, as a customer, I would not be happy.
