Tax or Nontaxable

I am getting all kinds of mixed information. Do you add tax onto your tanning sessions?

Re: Tax or Nontaxable

ANY UV service you must add a 10% federal tax onto the sale price paid by the person buying the services.

Re: Tax or Nontaxable

Do I have the state tax then of 6.875 and an additional 10% for the Federal on top of that?

Re: Tax or Nontaxable

Yes and you owe it on all UV services from July 1st through September 30th. It has to be paid by October 1st. If you didn't collect the 10% from your customers you have to pay it.

Actually, it has to be paid by October 31st (or November 1st since the 31st falls on a Sunday).

Re: Tax or Nontaxable

I thought we only had to charge Federal tax (10%). There's no state tax on tanning services is there?

Re: Tax or Nontaxable

You do not charge that state tax on tanning. That is a sales tax. You do charge the 10% tax to all uv tanning. That is a tanning tax.

Re: Tax or Nontaxable

^^^^^^ Unless you have a State tax on tanning. Then you would charge both.

Re: Tax or Nontaxable

I actually have to pay (and charge) the state tax to my customers. Our tax rate for my specific county is 9.3%. Add that to the 10% federal tan tax for a whopping 19.3% that I get to collect from every customer that makes any type of UV purchase.
I do know that some states that have a tax do not have to tax the tanning. It depends on the state and how it is written.
