Re: Getting burnt out

Ok, noted! I'll be swinging by the liquor store on the way home. I've taken my moment of frustration out on my lobby area. Rearranged everything frantically and organized the desk. My tension level is a bit lower now.

I gave up drinking... to expensive LOL
On a serious note though I actually look at i a bit differently I enjoy slow season a bit more, I can spend more time with my family, take vacations, and not worry sales opportunities are being missed. I am here a bit more now since I have a girl out on maternity leave, but all in all this is the best time of year for us. We breath

Re: Getting burnt out

I think I will be more relaxed during the slow season next year. I just need to get the first year under my belt and (fingers crossed) some money set aside to survive the slow season. Here's to hoping 2011 starts turning this industry in a better direction (as I hold my imaginery champagne glass in the air.) See I'm already pretend-drinking:)

I'm afraid the old addage of saving some money to survive the slow season, is becoming harder and harder to do. My savings, which I accumulated from the busy season used to last until and beyond the busy season. Now, it's gone in July. The big thing now is, there will nothing saved from the busy season, because there will be no busy season. Good luck, and I hope you make it to the slow season in 2011, which will be January.

This doesn't happen too often, but I agree with Glow :)

Slow season is when I start to breathe. Kick back, work less in the salon and more ON the salon. This is the time of year I start planning for a busy season. Setting a new marketing strategy, re-evaluating pricing, re-evaluating equipment, plan a budget, etc.

For those of you who dread going to the salon everyday I can only make one suggestion: Change your attitude or get out of the business.

Your clients know when something is up and you are projecting negative energy on them. Doesn't make for a good "spending" environment.

Just my $0.02. Now, if I was tanning 20 ppl/day, I don't know if I could still maintain this attitude towards my salon, but at that point I'd seriously consider closing up shop.

This is very true, last year I had the same experience, but it was due to being engulfed in another business I own.I spent more time on the phone/computer returning calls/emails/quoting than dealing with customers. It got to the point that I had to hire someone else so my customers would receive the attention they required. Now I work the salon a couple weekends a month,my customers are happy to see me and I have time to listen to their senseless banter.

Re: Getting burnt out

i work for an amazing married couple who bought this business from another person. thus far... we've got specials going, 6 working beds, and have recently started a curves type of gym. the gym is going really slow too. keep your head up. HOPEFULLY once mr. sun isn't able to do his job, that's when we come in and save the day. sitting around is boring, but enjoy it while you can. once you get swamped you'll miss the days of relaxing with your 15 clients. another thing. if i had 15 clients a day i'd be thrilled. we're open 6a-7p and we've been having 8-12 clients a day. obama's tax on tanning caused us to have to inflate prices, no lotions sold, no packages sold, and the gym not doing so great. it's all about keeping your head up and hoping for the best. if your customers see you're stressed, and bored, and frustrated... they might take offense.
