newbie looking for answers from the tanning salon vets .. - tanTALK

Hello everyone !! Beautiful day in Florida, hope it's nice where you are!
I'll try to keep this as simple as possible. Any info is welcome, be it critical or supportive :)

I'm contemplating opening a salon. I'm in SW Florida, and I must say, contrary to some belief, people here loovvee to tan at a salon. It's just much easier and time wise than going to the beach several times a week to maintain your tan.

I'm looking to start out small for now. 4 beds, and a standup, with room to grow. Good idea or bad?

I want to include a nail station. Is it smart to just charge the nail tech a station fee and have them fill out a 1099? (independant contractor) or have them as an actual employee? which would be more cost concious?

Recomended wholesalers for products ??

Location is most important here, so what is a good distance to keep between myself and a competitor? I'm not SO heartless that I'd pop up shop next door and try to steal clientel, becuase that would be bad for business for the both of up obviously. I want to appeal to an are that is untouched. I personally wont go to a salon that is more than 10miles away..

MONEYY! I'd like to get a loan from my bank to help out.. any suggestions for the amount ?

Look up MicroSpa on this forum. They are in your neck of the woods and opened within the past year.

Two great people and am sure they are willing to provide some great advice.

where in SW Florida are you thinking about opening?
Make sure you find a good location with plenty of distance from your competition.
In this day and age you have to make sure you do it right or don't do it at all.
