Finding that investor:

Does anyone / Has anyone used an investor / VC?
If so , who / where / how did you find them....

This is for a start-up salon.

Re: Finding that investor:

Don't take this the wrong way. You want to find an investor for a start up salon in an Industry which you have no experience in and have never owned a salon? I have put together several people but the people that invest only want to invest into things that are proven and behind people with experience and a solid system. Best suggestion to you use close family if possible. Also do you want the weight on your shoulders of using funding that is not yours but someone else’s into something that you have not tested, tried or have no experience at all in?

Having the right equipment mix, proper training, proper location, proper price structure in this Industry is crucial. You have very little room for error. Your going to need to be well funded for the first few years and if your looking for an investor maybe now is not the right time to do this. Just my honest opinion. Keep reading on tan talk and visit with some successful salon owners.

Re: Finding that investor:

So out of the hundreds of owners / industry professionals on this web-blog, only one person has a response?

Matt:
Thank you for taking the time to give me some input (is appreciated). Yet, I am a strong believer in growth, getting out and making things happen. People have to start somewhere. I am not the type of person that is going to get into the industry by cleaning beds, or selling lotions at a gym down the street.

Again:
This showing no replies w/ true insight on where / how some of you contacted investors, I must come to the conclusion that each of you had the silver-spoon from the get-go. Or maybe someone died and left some money? Sugar-Daddy / Sugar Momma scenario? It can't be true that each person has a "friend" thats loaded, or had parents that had 60k to just hand-over.

If there is anyone with insight as to how to find a VC for this industry, please let me know.

Re: Finding that investor:

I can't help you we funded ourselves. You might want to add someone that worked hard to save the money to back their own venture and not need anyone else to your line up of how we all got into the business. :)

Re: Finding that investor:

Nothing wrong with working hard and saving.
But, it is not possible that each person saved their money, had a buddy, sugar spouse.

Are there not any VC's in this blog?
Are there not any in the world that deal with this industry?
There are hundreds of lotions, manufactures, bulbs, insurance co's, blog sites, yet nobody specializes in VC for this industry?

Re: Finding that investor:

If you cannot afford to open a salon then don't do it. This industry doesn't need anymore struggling and failing salons.

You said it yourself ^^. You have to learn all aspects of the industry and the ones you listed above are, yes- a start.

It would take a lot more to start up than 60K.

Do you have ANYTHING to contribute? Money; Collateral; Industry Experience

These are all things that an investor would look at- they want a return. Are you worth the risk?

There is no point in responding.

Translation: I am lazy and I am certainly way above cleaning up after others. I want it all handed to me and I don't want to have to place any risk on myself. As I said before, I am lazy and I don't believe in myself so I would just rather lose someone else's money. It is much easier to just walk away.

Translation: I feel slighted and think that I deserve what everyone else has without doing anything for it.

Translation: As I have said many times before, I am really lazy and will just ask you all here to do the legwork for me instead. I don't know anything about running a business and I am certainly too lazy to write my own business plan and seek out investors or a bank loan so I will just ask here and see if I can find some sucker that I can bamboozle into giving me lots of money to waste.
Why would you think anyone will step up to offer you any money? They see you as full of $h!t with comments like that such as wanting to start at the top with other peoples money without putting in your time and earning it the way the rest of us have.

Don't quit your day job.

Re: Finding that investor:

I won the lottery and decided instead of retiring early and spending my time drinking umbrella drinks on an island, I'd open a tanning salon.

You can't win if you don't play! Buy those tickets.............

Hey, since it wasn't really your money, can you send me half? I really don't feel like trying to make that much on my own.
