Ya. Maybe cause 64 is more for a server environ. Why would you even go 64 on a POS setup?

Re: Suggestions for computer system

Most people don't know they're buying 64bit, and those that do usually buy because they're told it's better. A better question to ask is why POS developers don't support 64 bit processing?

Anyhow, because of what dockboy said, you will want to get a 32 bit system. Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or higher and 4 GB ram IMO. That way when you've got Photoshop, Illustrator, Google Chrome, Helios, and your Appointment Book all open at the same time you won't want to stab yourself.

Actually most POS system are 64 bit now days. But Helios and the likes don't need to call for it. Major retailers, like ones that may use GERS, etc. Are probably using a 64 bit backend.

64 bit versus 32 does NOT mean faster as some are told or think. The main benefit is the system and apps ability to address large registers of RAM. One a Mac that 4GB and up. On windows thats 3GB and up.

So really it comes down to RAM requirements. I dont *think* most desktop POS systems even dump the entire database in RAM anyway. Would be nice and that WOULD speed things up.

Is this why graphic intensive operations, like those performed by Illustrator will work MUCH faster on a 64bit system? I don't know the difference between 64 bit ad 32 bit to tell you the truth. I just know that most people think "bigger" is better, and don't understand the compatibility issues.
