Taking over a salon

Hello,
I am new here. I am in the process of negotiating buying an existing salon. The problem I am not sure about is #1. It is in a small strip of stores, however, it is on the first original road ever built in this town. Very old building, even has bars on the windows because of single pane galss windows. #2 There are 7 beds- 4 are old as dirt like 1993 and 1994 wolf tanning beds. 1 Sunstar 2003, 1 Tropical Rayz 2006, and 1 1999 Wolf bed. Not crazy about the beds AT ALL. But the current owner says that the clients she has don't care about the beds, the enjoy the customer service and prices. #3 There are 2 large new"er" very popular tanning salons within 3 or 4 miles of the salon. 2 other salons in the salon closed down when the newer salons moved in. Is an older salon with great customer service and prices better than up to date popular salons?? By the way she is sellong for 10,000. I thought of possibly buying it just to get the beds and all the divider walls, decor, lotions, ect. and move somewhere not close to the big boys. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

The equipment is worth pretty much zero. If it was making any money why would she sell for $10,000? What is she grossing?

Re: Taking over a salon

I truely believe that the equipment does play a major role, however, great customer service and the enviromnent of the place is a major role as well. I personally have left a "newer" salon to go to an older one, just because of the customer service
