Rep Power: 0 | Adding a bed to my gym Please pardon the faux pas, I know some are of the opinion that professional scopes should not cross, but never the less I am adding a bed to my gym in Galveston, Texas. Hopefully someone can guide me in some options. My ignorance puts me in a disadvantaged position of choosing a brand for my bed purchase. I have looked at my competitors and have their pricing for comparison, as well as looked at their beds. None of them have a bed over 32 bulbs and I've seen beds from prosun, magic something, esb, ets. My budget for the bed is around $6000. If the addition works out, I can shift some cash into another. I have my pricing set to go along with massage and gym packages, as well as single tanning packages. The lowest a person would be paying for a tan(with a large package purchase) is $5($10 being that most) I have estimated the demand from my members as being able to sell between 2-20 tans on a given day(based on avg. inquiry). With a $7.50 avg price at 2 a day I've figured the revenue at $4,320 per year on the low end Suggestions? |

Not sure how upscale your gym is, but I'd bet you could find a great bed for $3000 that still looks and tans great. Personally if I was only going to add 1 bed, I would not go for an incredible top end one. I'd get something w/ around 40 lamps, better than your comps but also not so expensive to buy or relamp. (I say 40 since the price diff for a 32 to a 40ish bed I feel is minimal) Spend $3000 and if your estimates are right then you'll pay for it in a year, if you are wrong you are not behind as much. From adding new beds to our place. If I replaced all my base beds (which is what yours really is if you have 1) I would make very little more money than I do now. As a Side note, where in galveston? I work in emergency management and was down there for 3 months (actually beaumont) helping to manage the Temporary housing installs for FEMA. Alot of damage there, glad you're up and running. Galveston has come back great. My gym is downtown by the historic/tourist districts. I actually bought the place for a deal after the storm and have had a steady feed of about 15 new members a day in the first 6wks we've been open. It's been more encouraging than I expected. I knew Galveston would be back and the gym would eventually prosper, but I didn't think this many of the old members were still living on the island. Shops and businesses are popping up left and right. I knocked out a wall and am in the process of building out the tanning/massage area. I appreciate your feedback RCKnep3

I didn't get to see it in person, just photo's since I was stuck in beaumont since we were spread out all over from Galveston to Orange. |

Check your math first. You say 2-20 Tans per day at $7.50 Average. 2 Tans per Day X 365 Days X $7.50=$5.475 per year I would but a good mid level bed with facials, maybe a 40X140 Watt bed with facials. Or, work out a referral deal with the tanning salon you mentioned in your area. Get a referral fee if you send them there, and don't worry about a bed, running it, etc. etc.
