What is recommend if I don't have software?

I have just purchased a salon that is not using tanning software. While I test out and decide which software to go with i need recommendations on what is the best way to keep track of things!!! I have never ran a salon without software and I feel unorganized. Does anyone have any pointers?

Get a Client Information Card system. It is required in some states if there is no computer records. Client name address skin type list your beds and times the client was in and what bed for how long.

Transfer later to the computer.
Good Luck

Re: What is recommend if I don't have software?

I have a card system with all the client info! I'm just not good at this "old school" method. Should I have an appointment book just to keep track of what time each bed is being used? I keep going back and fourth about it, but can't seem to decide.

That info should be part of the card system. Then hurry and decide which software you want so you don't have too much inputting to catch up on.
Have fun.

Re: What is recommend if I don't have software?

I am looking at purchasing a salon and just found out that they are not using software at this point. Its a small place though, 60-80 tanners day and it seems to work well. There is t-max in place to control / audit the minutes used, and thats how they doublecheck cash flow vs. minutes used (to avoid embezzlement).

They have everything on cards, 1 card per customer.

Questions:
i) any reactions to above?
ii) how much would software cost?
iii) Do I really need it for a small operation like that?

Re: What is recommend if I don't have software?

I am a very small salon, as well. I only use the cards as I can't see the need financially to do anything else. I use quickbooks and the address book in printshop. I also keep track of email addresses. Its not high tech, but it works for me. I am here most of the time so I don't worry about people tanning their friends free.

Re: What is recommend if I don't have software?

Get software, while you might be able to track items via the t-max it will be much harder and still easy enough that you would not notice. Customers tend to hate the card if you mean they have to carry. If you are keeping cards on them then it must be a pain. Software is anywhere from $200+ if you look around. I tried TanTrack and like it so I just went with it. Found it for sale from a closing salon and got it cheap. If you are pressed for time it'd be more but still would pay off quickly in saved time and $ lost. I only had 5 beds, I did it since it made my life sooooooo much easier. Not just to run the beds but track my business
