Question A question by a customer

Alright, from the threads I've been reading I'm fairly certain this is the completely wrong site to ask a question like this - however;
I've never used a tanning bed before, ever.
The sun in Canada doesn't really suit my skin needs and I want to get a tan.
So yeah, I'm a noobie consumer and I have a question:

How do you tanning salon owners price the bed times?
Is it package deals for multiple sessions?
Pay-per-hour type of deal?
And, the biggest question: How much money should I expect to pay as a consumer to get a reasonable tan (including session costs, lotion costs, etc.)

I can see this forum is dedicated to tanning business owners but I've been searching all over Google for information as the consumer and I'm finding nothing on the prices.

Can you help a possible soon-to-be-tanner out?

Sorry for the hassle,

~ Luke.

Re: A question by a customer

I'm sure somebody on this board can answer your questions, but it will depend on the salons near you. Everyone prices differently. Check out some of the salons, ask some questions on how to achieve a nice tan and go with the one you are most comfortable with.

Start out slow, on average it will take about 2 weeks in which you tan every other day to get a fair color. How fast it goes, depends on your skin type.

Always use a good lotion before and after so that you take care of your skin and get more out of a tanning session (moist skin tans better).

Good luck and have fun!

You may also want to check out this site. It has a skin typing section so you can determine your exposure time.

Re: A question by a customer

I usually tell my fair skinned customers not to expect any visual results the first couple of times they tan. This sounds strange, but you need to ease yourself into your tan. It takes a few exposures UVB to cue your body to make the melanin that then becomes a tan. If you over do it too soon you will burn, peel and lose the tan your paid for. It may seem like a waste of time and money for a newbie, but their is a lot of merit in building a good base.

And I agree, use a really good lotion. Look for something with Tyrosine in the ingredients. Make sure it is towards the top of the list. This little ingredient will help your body produce as much of the lovely melanin as possible. That stuff is tanning "gold".

I'm as white as snow, I don't think I should have too much of a problem tanning to begin with..

Re: A question by a customer

Well, I'm kind of getting strapped for money at the moment.
I just don't want to look like a complete buffoon and bring up a long conversation with a tanning specialist in town only to reveal that I couldn't afford even the cheapest option.
