I spend a few hours a day in the gym and tan a few days a week, i believe in looking good, which in turn makes you feel good, and helps you succeed in life, but i am also a realist, and don't want to jump into something like a tanning salon if the investment will take the coming of the next ice age to payoff, so thats why i am in here pokin around. If i could open up a casino and have porn in the back and bootleg cigarettes all in the same building i could turn my 2002 silverado into a 2007 porsche boxter lol

Add to that buildout of $75000 and inventory and supplies to the tune of $5000 and you have a total of about $200,000 just to open the doors. Then make sure you have an extra $50,000 stashed aside for paying your ongoing bills until you are able to at least break even. This could take a year or more. I know, because I experienced this. I will tell you this, I did fairly well my first two years; but, this being my third year has went down the tubes. This year started out a brake-even month in January and I've been down every month since. If I were you, I'd try something different. I don't think in this day and age that there is such a thing as return on your investment in the tanning industry. I would have made more by leaving my $250,000 in the bank and earning 1/2 % interest. Last edited by parrot head; 06-26-2007 at 05:53 PM. Reason: Spelling |

I wouldn't even be considering this idea if it wasn't for the growing area i am living in, if i was still in Scottsdale or Phx Az i wouldn't even consider it, but Rio Rancho New Mexico is growing like crazy and there isn't a full service tanning facility within 15 miles, if i had more money than brains i would have put it up by now, thats why i have been looking and reading the upsides and downsides of doing this, and being a gym rat and tanning rat myself, i assume everyone should be lol and here in Rio Rancho New Mexico there is alot of FAT people here, and pale looking ones to who need a good tan hehehe (-:

Being a gym and tanning rat myself i think everyone should be, but where i live everyone has a BUTT the size of texas and if there white there pale lol, the hispanics and indians have a nice built in tan already (lucky bastages)lol i'm glad i ran into this board, there is alot of good info here, and people who have been there and done that like yourself, and i definetly don't want to open a pandoras box i won't beable to close, i don't like alot of chaos in my life, and love working from home and hangin out with my 2 pooches. And if i open a tanning salon i gotta feeling i would go thru my life savings quickly, but hey i would look good huh?? lol

When i'm in the gym i see a few people who come in just to tan, i don't even know why they bother, they don't take care of the rest of there bodies. I told the owner of the gym he should put up a sign saying if you weigh more than the tanning bed, you can't tan lol
