Rep Power: 0 | Some honest opinions please. Hey everyone I'm new, this is my first post. I've spent some time reading everyones posts and what not and this forum seems to be very honest and real. Anyhow I haven't spent a great deal on thinking about opening a tanning salon, but from what everyone has said it seems like a hassle, just as opening any business. But to tell you the truth, I'm tried of working for people who never appreciate my services and thought If I get into my own business I would be more successful or at least be my own boss. I just want some honest opinions. (which i'm sure won't be difficult) If I open up a tanning salon, it will be in a small town of about 3000 people. There are three hair salons in town, two of the three have low pressure sunbeds. Combined that's three sunbeds in the whole town. My sister and I are very well known in this town and we know a lot of young people. We were thinking of renting from family friend in the downtown area, rent would be close to $100/month. We were thinking of getting 2 low pressure beds and a medium pressure bed to start out with. Think it's a good idea? Another question, where do you find out about these tanning conventions?[/color] Last edited by Neon Beach; 03-22-2007 at 04:50 PM. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Some honest opinions please. All of these demographics (including the ones I mentioned earlier) are outdated and about 8 years old. I'm going to search for more recent ones. Median household income in 1999 (dollars) 25,049 Median family income in 1999 (dollars) 29,710 Per capita income in 1999 (dollars) 12,482 The nearest cities are 40 minutes north with a population of 34,748, and the other is about 50 minutes southeast with a population of 393,049. The nearest towns are... 10 mile radius - pop. 531, and 3,282 15 mile radius - pop. 188, and 433 20 mile radius - pop. 1,555 and 5,396 Right now I'm in the process of searching out all of the tanning salons in the small town areas that I live near and checking prices, beds, and getting darker at the same time. |

Probably more than you know, but that should not be your focus - EVER. Being from such a small town, I'm guessing rural America, and tanning is a business primarily about vanity, which typically is lower priotity among rural Americans in my experience. That isn't to say women in small towns don't care about how they look or don't want to be sexy and attractive; but they are usually less-willing to spend disposal income to that effect than women and men in larger metropolitan areas. Just something for you to consider in addition to everything else. Hope this helps. Good luck. -Z
