I have never sold vacuums, however before I got involved in the tanning industry I was in the clothing retail business. I used to be with a company some of you might remember called Merry Go Round. We opened boutiques all over the US. I was a regional manager and developed new stores. So I guess you could say that I have been opening businesses all of my working career. My ex-wife got me involved in the tanning industry because she was a body builder and I designed a booth and had it built by a van conversion company and profit-shared it at the gym where she trained. That was 27 years ago. I thought that you might be interested in my back ground so I included my history in this industry here.

·Owned and operated 14 tanning salons in Dallas, Texas
·Owned and operated one of the largest tanning equipment and supplies distributing company in the US (Southern Exposure)
·Distributed 10 different lines of tanning equipment
·Developed and marketed a private line of lamps and lotions
·Founder and President of Texas Tanning Association, later to become the National Tanning Association
·Introduced automatic debit to the tanning industry through the NTA, later to become Electronic Funds Transfer
·Creator and Author of Tanning For Profit, Tanning For Profit the PowerTan Edition, Tanning Today, Value Plus and Toning & Tanning Today the four most successful marketing programs in the industry
·Featured speaker, teaching Tanning For Profit seminars at tanning trade shows and for large chains of tanning salons
·National Sales Manager for puretan International Inc. a tanning equipment manufacturing company for 12 years
·Owner of SMU Consulting and Equipment Sales

Re: Texas Newbie - which beds to buy???

In the spirit of resume posting I thought I'd jump in:

0 years in the tanning industry
0 years owning any kind of business
0 years selling tanning equipment
0 years selling lotion
14 years busting my butt in a restaurant making someone else very rich

Grand Opening March 15th. I expect ALL of you to be there!

So, do you know that guy that got busted on Dateline the other night? Said he was a program analyst for a national tanning salon.

You end up with a lot of struggling salons that blame their failure on the industry when in fact they are 100% responsible for failing. These are the salons that there are too many of. If you look at this situation it makes it great for the salon owners that understand, proper location, packaging, marketing and advertising, these salons will succeed 100% of the time.
I know this is an old thread, but I have to say as a tanner, I am always looking for the best deal. I don't really care what a salon looks like, I care that they are clean, the beds work correctly and that they have decent hours. I live in the land of luxurious salons and I will take their free deals and go somewhere else. Sorry, but I am just being honest and I know of a lot of other people like me. It really is because of the competition that I can do this. :/
