Rep Power: 51 | Calling all Veterans What advice can you give all the newbies on being prepared for Season? My advice: Brandy's Tip #1 ~Overstock yourself on paper items like, toilet paper, paper towels, copy paper, things like that. ~Overstock yourself on candy for the beds, extra towels, extra 'this bed is clean' signs. ~Overstock yourself on starters, disinfectant and radios (if you have individual ones), airbrush solution. ~Overstock yourself on sign in sheets, initial visit statements and any other items that you have printed up. Have a plan and stick to it the best you can. If you have employees be prepared to check in often and work late even more. Train your staff to be able to handle things with care. If an issue comes up in the middle of season, train the others on how to fix it or handle it better. Do a weekly memo that any staff memeber can refer to anytime. I call my "Brandy's Monday Memo", I know creative huh. I do mine year round. Role play with your staff now while you have the chance. Role play in selling as well as with situations. Keep them on their toes. Be prepared to share the wealth with employees. If you don't they will think it's ok to dip their hands in the till....

Rep Power: 51 | Re: Calling all Veterans Oh, and don't forget to stock up on trash bags and drinks for your coke machine! ~Don't overstock on lotion. Stock well, but don't overdo it. You never know what lotion will take off in your salon. You don't want to be stuck with a case of something that does not sell at all. In most cases your ditsy will exchange it, but it's easier just to order on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This is just my experience, so anybody pitch in if you like!

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Calling all Veterans Don't get cauky and think cause your making big money now you can buy a new car, wardrobe or new equipment......it seems like it won't stop but it does if you don't believe me read our slow season posts...save all your money for the first 2-3 years that way you can build a nice bank roll to support the slow times.... Do not slack on advertising during the slow times...... Use this month to rid your salon of weakiness and build on your strengths....Hire or fire any employees now because when the busy season comes you won't have time for such things! A nice employee who doesn't sell cost you more then you think! They need to sell or your business will fail don't keep them just cause you like them teach them to sell!!!!!!!!! If you can't afford fancy decor, a fridge with cokes, give aways, don't waste the money right now CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN a clean salon makes up for alot!!! |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Calling all Veterans Do not hire to many employees hire accordingly.......I see some salons with 8 beds with 4 employees on at once, no owner in sight then I see the salon up for sale...gee I wonder why they weren't doing so hot.... Don't under hire either you can not be productive with no rest....If you are working every night and day please have bed cleaner on at night so you can have some time to relax....I worked 72 hours without a bed cleaner for 4 months lotion sales increased once I put a cleaner on....I had time to sale and time to rest! |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Calling all Veterans I agree Brandy just because you have 3 people on at night doesn't mean you have to keep them....if its slow down cut accordingly that night..... Off one night Call in at night and check in...if sales our slow, motivate them with a phone call pep talk....You don't have to live their to keep your salon in check Come up with specials and promotions now in advance....If your busy and flustered they might not be as creative or well thought out as now..... Go over all your rules, dress codes, sales pitches with employees now....everyone can used to be resfreshed once in awhile.....Set up your 07 incentive program for employees now as far as contests and commission...... |
