Rep Power: 19 | AC Needs----Please answer quick!!!! Guys We are now starting to build our place. We have went back and forth on the AC Needs with the architect and mech engineer. Our distributor says that we need 8.25 Tons for the beds, based off of 50% Usage to allow for down time and cleaning. If we vent the two larger beds, our ac requirements are reduced by 25%, so this would be 6.25 Tons. We are already getting 3.5 Tons as part of our delivered box for the space. So, with the 3.5+6.0 that I originally ordered, we would have 9.5 Tons, which is the 6.25 for the beds, plus the 3.25 for the open spaces. We are only 1100-1200 square feet. If we add an additional 4 tons, as we had planned, we will also need an additional 200AMP Panel. All in all, I think the 9.5 Tons total would be enough, if we vent the big beds, and put the three ceiling fans in the hallway. What do you guys think? I sure don't want to not do enough, but then again, I also don't want to spend the extra 10-12,000 bucks for the ac and the panel if we really don't need it. Please give me your experince quick, as we are building away!!! I would rather hear from folks who actually have 8 bed salons that are about the same 1200 sq ft size and see what their input is..... |

Rep Power: 103 | Re: AC Needs----Please answer quick!!!! 9.5 tons is enough for 8 beds under most circumstances. Location has something to do with this too. Keep in mind that when it is hot and you are busy, the door opens a lot and lets out your cool air. In other words, you don't need as much AC in Michigan as you do in Mississippi.

As a reference point we designed the two rooms for our salon (sorry not an 8 bed operation) 4'-8' we added one small wall AC in each room they get to 130+ degrees without the extra AC. Our rooms are full walls to the ceiling clients like the privacy and it cuts the noise in the rest of the salon. Back to the AC we have had clients note that it’s sometimes chilly in the rooms. Remember its not all about the AC size its about air flow also there other options out there besides huge industrial AC units that will ice down your entire building all the time it ahs worked out very well for us to have multiple units if we have a slow morning we don’t have to turn them all on. look up mr slim online. |

Rep Power: 25 | Re: AC Needs----Please answer quick!!!! What we have always went with in designing salons and it has worked without a flaw. For Regular unit up to about 35 lamps was a 1/2 ton per bed. Large upgrade units with 160watt lamps/Facials and verticals was 1 ton per bed. Not sure the formula but it was given to me this way and it has work without a problem. Just my opinion on past experience. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: AC Needs----Please answer quick!!!! Where are you located? This could make a big difference. We're in Minnesota (really, in the busy season, we could let the place ac itself when it's 20 below!!) and we just went through this as well. We are at 1849 square feet with 6 beds to start but capacity for 10. We got 4.25 tons of AC included in the lease, and upgraded to 7.5 tons. We put ceiling fans down the hallway and have an open ceiling with 9' walls for circulation. Again, busy season is the coldest for us so i'm not too terribly concerned about overheating. We also got a 200amp panel in the lease but had to get another one. It was actually a buck booster transformer from our disty - $1600! Don't skimp on the electrical though - your beds will run much better with the right electrical. My husband is an electrician so it's been great to have his knowledge. I would think that 9 tons would be plenty and you shouldn't have to add an additional 4 tons. Good luck! |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: AC Needs----Please answer quick!!!! A 100 watt systems requires 1 Ton AC or .75 Ton Ac if you are cutting it very thin. A 160 watt system requires a minimum of 1.5 Ton AC Typically a HP system requires free air venting and 2 to 3 Ton AC Plus common area AC Not being able to properly cool your salon will cost you tanners quickly Packaging, presentation, comfort, customer service. Proper level of cooling falls into all of these categories. Try and get AC units with duel compressors. That way only one compressor comes on until the second is needed. I think they are available when you get up to a 7 ton unit. |
