I am also new to this board and I am also opening a salon and would like to buy Salontouch Software, POS hardware, and 6-7 beds with under 700 hours on them. Looking for a good deal, paying with cash. Principals only thanks. Naturally, advice is always welcome. |

Get 3 base beds, leave 2 rooms open, Your business will dictate what should be put in the open rooms. If it turns out to be up-grade, great, if not you will not have a costly mistake that could not easily be corrected. |

The standard in this industry is a 32 lamp base bed. The value client will go where they get the 32 lamp system as opposed to the 28 lamp. Either the 28 lamp is narrower or the lamps are further apart reducing tanning strength. It is important that if there are other potential new salon owners reading this to not make these potentially costly mistakes. What ever mix you decide on in terms of base beds to up-grades is one thing. However if you don't have a clear understanding of the different levels and the separation you must create you are going to make equipment choice mistakes that are going to drastically restrict your earning potential. Why give tools to your competition so they can potentially tilt the field in their favor. If I go to two salons and one offers me a package on a 28 lamp bed and the other offers me a package on a 32 lamp bed and all other things are equal, where do you think I am going to tan? You can't enter this business with blinders on, you must at least listen to the facts and make decisions based on things that you can't change. Have you seen the new commercial on TV where Wendy's shows their large 99 cent chicken sandwich next to the McDonalds 99 cent chicken sandwich. Wendy's is a normal excepted size sandwich while the McDonalds sandwich is half the size of an excepted size sandwich. |
