Re: royal sun

Hello everyone!
So, I also, like alot of you, am doing research on opening a tanning salon. My boyfriend and I are very excited about it. You guys have been very, very helpful, and I thank you. I just have a question, or two, okay, maybe three. Well I just want to know, are we supposed to find a place first, then get a loan, or go for a loan, (how much??) then try to find a space to open the salon. Do we need a lawyer or consultant?? Do we do the plans, show them to a contractor, etc, get a price then get a loan. Oh goodness, I just don't know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!

Re: Start - Up Newbies Question

This post was moved here from the "royal sun" thread since it's a better place to get some answers to her questions.

Re: Start - Up Newbies Question

I'd start out looking for salons that may be for sale in your area. Sometimes you can find a real diamond in the rough for the price of a '78 VW. If that doesn't look good, I'd start looking for available spaces as close to established salons that I could find. If there aren't any, start looking for any available spaces that will accomodate a 10 to 15 bed salon with decent lobby/POS space. Then start looking into funding. Good luck.

Re: Start - Up Newbies Question

I would start with a concept plan first, so that you can discuss your favorite approach (and compare!) and estimate roughly what you need for funding and what you can put in it yourself. Then you can also pinpoint better what kind of place you can afford. With this concept plan go looking for a place and also if you need a loan go to the bank to see what's possible. Good luck!

Poaching is not a strategy for long term success. All it does is slice up a market pie so that everyone gets a smaller slice. It depresses market pricing and profitability.

It's better to find an underserved area and operate more profitably "in the eye of the hurricane".

The more I read, the more confused I get.

It is understood that everyone has an opinion. This guy says "left" and that guy says"no right" Which one is right? The problem is absorbing all of the info available on this site, digesting it and figuring out what is right for me. This site is nice to be able to work all these things out now, rather than later.

Re: Start - Up Newbies Question

Yes there will always be more roads that lead to Rome.

The thing is we all have our experiences. Some things have worked, some were stupid and we learned from them. It's up to every one to filter out what they can use and what they can't.

Re: Start - Up Newbies Question

I agree with whoever said don't be partners with your boyfriend. It will NOT work...guaranteed.

Either he owns it or you own it. Partnerships do NOT work in tanning salons.
