I couldn't have done this without the support of my family, so that's good that you have that. PM me if you have any questions. |

Sean, we just opened our salon 2 days ago...but I have been doing research for the past year and a half before my family and I decided to purchase an already existing salon. Like all the other salon owners on this site will tell you...RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH...and it sounds like you are definitely business savvy, so that of course can only help you. You definitely have to know about your market and advertise accordingly. Know what the other salons in your area are charging and try to beat their prices without throwing yourself into the "red" in the process. Going in thinking you have all your ducks in a row will only throw you for a loop when something you never expected comes up, so be prepared for as the rest of the salon owners here said "trial and error." I have gained SO MUCH insight and information into the tanning industry through this site, and I am sure I wouldn't know half of what I know now if it wasn't for the salon owners on here. They are EXTREMELY helpful and I am very grateful to them (although they may not know it since I haven't posted too much-they do now!! lol) I wish you all the luck with whateva decision you make!! |

We tried to buy the existing salon in town and it was very difficult to get financing so we ended up just starting a new salon-it was easier and initially cheaper but getting the word out was an issue at first. I'd love to hear how your doing on this. |

I looked into starting our own salon, however the one that Ive decided to purchase is already pretty well equipped with just a slightly rough surface. I've already devised an inexpensive face-lift for it which should really neaten things up and make it much more inviting. I've got the financing available fairly easily so thats not a major issue that I'm combatting against. |

The owner came to me to evaluate and get his salon moving in the right direction. In one year we have just about doubled his income and in about a week we are opening his new second salon. Soleil Tans is a perfect example of the potential of existing salons that just need to make the appropriate changes. |

Although we haven't opened yet, I am far more confident that when we do open we are going to be in a better position to succeed than if we had did it on our own. This is not to take anything away from the very helpful people on the forums it's just that Steve has a vested interested in our success and there isn't any BS to sort through. I highly recommend getting a consultant to work with and my experience with Steve has been very positive. |
