Rep Power: 21 | Re: mystic vs. beds The number of spray tanners out there is a fraction of the number of UV tanners. The day of the spray booth doing huge profits is over. Spray booths are everywhere in almost every salon. This has diluted the spray tanners in every market. Don't misunderstand, there is certainly a need for spray tanning in this industry, however it is more important to be able to satisfy all of your tanners UV tanning needs before you ad spray. Not all spray booths are profitable but they can pay for themselves and increase the overall packaging of your salon. This type of packaging can have an indirect positive effect on your salon. It should never be a matter of UV or spray, it is better to evaluate at what time is my salon ready for spray to be added. |

My question was what percentage of your clients are spray tanners vs uv tanners.... we are going to be leasing a 1200 sq ft space and will have 2 hp ergoline beds and 3 ergoline base beds. We are in a new booming community so I feel 5 beds is more then enough for now. I was just debating whether or not a MysticTan would be worth the investment. I now think we will build a space for it but not purchase it until our we feel the client demand will be enough to pay for it. |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: mystic vs. beds Steve, I totally agree with you sunless tanning was good while it lasted. I have yet to earn a payback on my sunless tanning booth. Just for the **** of it, I offered free sunless tanning for through a weekend. one taker. that proves it. The sunless tanning craze was just a fad and an expensive one. Why would people use a booth when they can buy a bottle of sunless tanning lotion. whenever you offer a cheaper alternative, all things being equal, customers are going to buy the cheaper alternative. sunless tanning is dead. I've said so much a couple of times here. I was hoping someone would agree and say it like it is. sunless is dead. hooray for sunless. not give me my money back. |

With that said I always hated spray tanning mostly b/c it dosen't give you that been at the beach all day and my face feels relaxed sensation. So with less media attention and it being fairly expensive I find it less poplular, but still a vital part of the buisness - you can get people hooked on it pretty easily. I also know of a number of people who "cocktail". Still I think beds are the way to go and the consumer agrees.

It's two seperate revenue streams for salons to help deliver waht your custy wants ... the brown. Don't put one over the other, all you salon owners. -Belvy (please forgive any typos)
