I subscribe to Demographics now. With the information that Demographics Now provides I create a custom Tanning Salon report that reflects only the information that is required for evaluating the location for a Tanning Salon. I assisted tnt and gave her the report, we spent some time communicating about her needs and I sent her a report. If you are taking on the project of opening a salon, spend a little money where needed to get the information you need instead of picking up scraps of information that is laying around. When is the last time you got something for free that was worth anything? |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: Demographics Tommy I am not trying to sell anything. Yes all demographic information comes from information that is provided by the census. However demographic companies take that information and make projections based on trends. They also provide that information in the form of maps, radius reports and they also allow you to customize the reports to better serve your needs. I have been opening salons for 27 years but without the services of demographic companies I would be unable to insure my clients that they are making the best possible location decisions. Tommy you may not be aware of this but picking the wrong location can be the first step toward failing. People that are totally against using a service usually make that decision without ever having used the service themselves. If you are going to give advise it is always best to have some experience with the service you are against. The properly prepared knowledgeable salon owner will always be more successful and make more money than the salon owner that is looking for shortcuts 100% of the time. I am always amazed at how often I find the blind leading the Blind. My clients come from referrals from my successful salon owners. I only work with forward thinking professionals that know that if they want to excel at something have the person that excels teach you. The time I spend here is to just give some guidance and direction to salon owners or potential salon owners that really need help. The people that can tell if someone knows what they are talking about always manage to find me. Now for a short answer there is better organized information available that will be more useful to you than just the census. |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: Demographics By the way Tommy, I am an authorized distributor for TanAmerica and Mystic and yet you have never heard me try and sell tanning equipment in any post I have ever made on this forum. Some of you get bent if I give advise as a consultant and yet I am an equipment distributor that actually has a major impact on the success of my clients salons. It might interest you to know that I have taken Consulting out of the name of my company because people like yourself on these forums don't understand what that means. People like you suggest that sharing knowledge if you are anything except a salon owner is evil. I have owned 14 salons over the years. Where a salon owner is aware of what goes on in their salon and their market. My knowledge comes from 27 years thousands of salons in all markets. I pride myself in being an innovator and leader in this industry particularly when it comes to marketing and impacting successful salons. That is why my salons are among the top 2% of all income producing salons in the US. But I have always enjoyed the salon owner with blinders on like yourself. You always manage to make the intelligent look more intelligent. |

Look, if you want to sell your services on TanTalk be my guest, for your looking for votes as the biggest brain in all tanning... campaign away, but if you really had as big a brain as you say you do, you could of used it before characterizing TanTalk's archives as "scraps of information that is laying around". Speaking for myself, it's been a valuable FREE resource, which BTW is an answer to one of your other questions: "When is the last time you got something for free that was worth anything?" Happy Campaigning Tom | |
