Rent at $2/sq. ft. Do you own the building? Even if you did you would still have taxes and CAM charges. Also, look into the air conditioning. You may have to foot the bill for an upgrade. Keep digging and learning. Let us know how you are doing.

ok its my first year open now and it cost me over $250,000 to open i have great beds $125,000 wall systems that cost me $18,000 alone .my space is 1300 sqft i pay 30.00 sqft . if u have 90,000 sorry but you cant open a salon and really make money yes you may get by but do you want too just get by in life you will use half of your 90,000 just too stay open with bills.so that gives you $45,000 to build and buy beds no way it wont last when the next person wants too open too . stop go buy a multi family house or in vest your money to double in the next 2-4 yrs then come back too tanning . see if you still want too do it .

I don't know what all you skeptics are talking about. 90K is plenty for what he/she is looking to do. Personally, I wouldn't spend all my cash, I would lease my equipment. I started my business with a few credit cards, and I'm doing just fine. It's not the # of beds only, if u buy the right ones and do it the right way, you will do fine.

Just b/c your situation isn't working out, don't discourage others. Every situation is unique. Just cause you couldn't (not directed towards anyone in particular) make it work, doen't mean someone else can't.

Why use your cash, when you could lose someone elses? Again, as in 99% of the threads on theses sites, not enough details for any of us to give even close to accurate advice to this person. First of all, "formulas" only work on paper, where there are indisputable rules and prdictable outcomes. This business does not necessarily adhere to rules and formulas. Sure, I know salon owners and franchises that "think" they have fool proof formulas for success. But for the most part, the successful people in this business were just lucky, or they were successful in something else before getting into tanning. Good luck. BTW, I belong to the first group.

Hello,
I am in Montgomery Alabama and am concidering opening a six bed salon to start with. I have chosen three tan america santa barbara's two pacifica's and one matrix. The location is a " in your face" location in a new movie theatre strip mall on the hottest new side of town. there is a twelve bed salon close by but not sure if it is a franchise ( Electric Sun www.electricsuntan.net) they have good beds but the salon is run down with lotion all over the walls and etc. I plan to go upscale with Eurowalls to make my place more classy. What I don't know is If I should take the plunge or not? I concidered leasing the walls and the beds and thinking the build out shouldn't be all that bad. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do you reccommend borrowing a little extra cash until you get thing going to make ends meet? I am so confused but need to make a decision. Thanks for any help you can give me!

to answer your question of "can i open a tanning salon with 80-90k" yes you can...you could even open one with 15k....but it all comes down to what type of area you are in and what you wanna accomplish...theres so many things i could type here but when my family opened a tanning salon they learned on there on so why would i wanna give away our 15 years of work and knowledge....why would anyone? if your looking to make millions of dollars and become rich quick dont plan on it

What type of salon can you open up exactly with 15k? A Succesfull one?

succesfull? hardly...but you can do it...we had a customer who thought running a tanning salon is the easiest thing ever and you make tons of money...wrong....well she went out and bought 4 used cheap beds and a timer system for like 10k...horrible setup but she did it...is she making any money? highly doubt it because i see her working part time at a grocery store
