Currently I live in the Atlanta area, but we are planning on retiring in Spartanburg, SC. in a few years. I have given a lot of thought to opening a salon there, but I was wondering what kind of market might be there? If anyone can offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to mention, it won't be in downtown Spartanburg but more on the outskirts, as we will be relocating to Inman, SC. I did a search and only came up with 1 tanning salon in Inman, which is a hair and tan place. Sorry for the confusion.

You need to do a lot of market research. You can look at buying information at Claritas.

Whatever you do, do not rely solely on demographics. Look at competitors. What are they charging? Type of equipment? I strongly recommend you do a market potential analysis. Check out Pointblank Business Technology. I can't recommend them enough. Here's their link: http://www.pointblankbusinesstechnology.com
They will give you the true market potential for your area. Well worth the investment if you are planning on opening a tanning salon.

I guess, you "work" for them don't you? Or was it TanPlan - Business Plan Software?
