Re: Anyone use SMU Consulting to start up?

Black Son and Peach could be related, as they must be joined at the hip. What they say about this industry is right on and both are from Georgia; go figure. What they both say, is not far from the truth, as to where this industry is headed. Anyone that thinks this industry has long legs is on stilts, and is wobbly at best. Pity the poor soul that hocks everything they own to chase a dream of owning a tanning salon. Long hours, less and less people coming through the doors, and increased costs of everything associated with operating that salon, will soon deter from enthusiasm needed to stay positive. It will turn out to be a money pit and a real downer. Keep that investment in the bank, making 1%, and your ROI will be better. PAY attention to what Black Sun and Peach have to say. Their insight to this industry is right on. "Fading quicker then a cheap tan". Negative maybe, but oh so true. Nuff' said.

Re: Anyone use SMU Consulting to start up?

Thank You, Parrot...I take that all as a compliment.

And while I could promise I and Peach are not joined at the hip, we are both from Georgia, and our insight proves we are not all Southern Bumpkins.

I have never met Peach/Dogfan, but do know he has a small chain of salons, so he speaks from 'experience'.

I was thinking the other day, that if you were to do a search on this site, or even the 'other' site, on any subject, go back 5 years more than half the posters are no longer active.
That is an indication, to me at least, that they have moved on, or lost interest in the industry to the point they no longer bother with industry forums.

I could bet, half the people on this site would have moved on from tanning within the next 5 years. In fact, I will say, this site will have less traffic on it as well. Not that it is a bad site, in fact, it is not. But by virtue of the lack of salon owners still in existence, support will no longer be there. The major players do not come on to theses sites, if they do, they must be very secretive about it.

And I will go on record to say, most of the tanning in existence will be via a gym..as that is where the industry is headed.

'Nuff Said.
The fact is that this industry is changing. Those that don't change will fail and go away while the successful continue to be successful and grow and there will always be new operators with the energy and drive to succeed to replace those operators that quit because they were not smart enough to succeed. Look at Tony for example. He is taking advantage of an industry that is changing and he is growing, just like so many others. This is a very important site but the down side is that it is also a gathering of failing operators that preach doom and gloom because the industry has left them behind. Although some that come hear will listen to good advice and make the needed changes because they do not want to fail, they just don't know how to be successful and need help. They come here looking for help and if they listen closely they learn. Unfortunately they have to sift through so much negative BS that it becomes hard to learn.

Can we lock this thread, It is a 9 year old thread and I did not reopen it and I feel it would be more productive to deal with issues and topics that are more current. Anyone can reopen any discussion that is on this thread but the bulk of it is simply dated.
