O.k so it is my second week opened and I dont no if it is going good or not.I bought an old buss. that was closed down for 2 mon. befor i bought it (so iam fighting to fights). We have been tanning about 3-7 people a day,is that good. Also everyday its new faces as well as old. I have been giving free sample cups of lotion to pritty much evryone, hoping that they will like it and buy it. I have a special that is 19.95/mon. unlimited tans base bed only, with upgrades available. It is a 12 mon sign up , a lot of people ask about it but dont sign up. what can i do to sign them up. I sent out about 300 mailings so far and about another 600 on the way. i have the bigest radio station doing (90) 60sec adds and a live van apperence on the 20th.What else can i do to get more people in here, and also how long does it take to make enuff money to pay your bills. Thanks for all your help!!!!!!

Steve

P.S - My landlord keeps telling me that i need more retail stuff is this true? i have hand bags, candles, belts and some lingerie but not alot of it just a few thing for people to look at. I dont no if just tanning is going to cover my bills, rent is over 2300 a month.

(pritty) pretty much you need (enuff) enough money for about 6 mos. to hold you over. The first year is the toughest. Do a search on here to read some of the other threads on how people are doing there first yr. even second yr. I just had my first yr. Ann. and I will tell you it was not easy. It still isn't. As far as your 19.99 and trying to get people to sign up???? Well, I would say a 12 mos. committment is a long time. Try and knock it down to 6 mos. committment and then after 6 mos go on month to month. You may get a better response with that. Wish you the best of luck but don't get discouraged. Things will pick up little by little.

WE OPENED 1 MONTH AGO TODAY. WE SENT OUT MAILERS THAT SAID "FIRST TAN ALWAYS FREE" AND "BUY A BOTTLE OF LOTION AND RECEIVE ANOTHER FREE TAN" YOU JUST HAVE TO GET THEM IN AND GET THEM HOOKED. SOME WILL NEVER COME BACK BUT THE ONES THAT DID HAVE BEEN BUYING, UPGRADING AND HAPPY. YOU NEVER KNOW FROM DAY TO DAY. I CUT BACK HOURS YESTERDAY BECAUSE THE WEEK WAS GOING SLOW AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF MY MOST PROFITABLE DAYS SINCE WE OPENED. I HAD TO WORK MY BUTT OFF BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. I SELL GOLD JEWELRY, LOTIONS, NAVAL JEWELRY AND A LITTLE FUN COSTUME JEWELRY. THE ONE THING THAT HAS SURPRISED ME IS HOW MUCH I'VE MADE ON EYEWEAR. WE DON'T SUPPLY EYEWEAR.THEY HAVE TO PURCHASE IT. (FOR SANITARY REASONS) WE HAVE A LARGE VARIETY AND THE ONES THAT HAVE BEEN FLYING OUT OF HERE ARE THE MOST EXPENSIVE ONES (PROSPECS)

GOOD LUCK!

I just had my 1 year anniversary too. It is HARD! We keep a clean salon and have great customer service. I also had 3 more new salons open around me so I guess we will see how things go, but keep your eyes open and listen to your customers.

I've been open almost a week. My new salon was outdoing the old one the 1st few days - the weekend sucked. In fact, it started to suck when I put out the sign saying 1st tan free. Before that they were buying big packages. I think I'll quit the freebie and offer something else. Lots come in and ask but don't even bother with the freebie. Some say they'll buy Friday (guess Thursday is payday)

Don't give everyone free lotion or they will never have to buy lotion and you won't make more money...Sell people sample packets and bottles of lotion along with their tanning session and packages.

You have to be able to explain and sell them on why they Need to use lotion...

You can also do a special on buy a bottle of lotion get a free tan in an upgrade bed. That way your selling a $30.00 bottle of lotion (and giving a tan away)versus selling a few dollar tan and giving away product.

Also, don't waste a huge amount of money advertising in November. November is the slowest month of the entire year nationwide...not just in your area...So unfortunately there is not a whole lot you can do to bring people in right now you just have to wait and things will pick up starting next month and get better monthly thereafter.

Also you probably don't want to have just a few (of any specific item)to sell...Having one or 2 of an item will not help it to sell, people won't buy if there are not more than a couple because they perceive that product to be not in heavy demand or not good. That's why a single bottle of lotion will sit there as opposed to 5 bottles of the same product (always stocked)selling better. So a few candles, belts, pieces of lingere will not look as good (or sell as well) as what I have just mentioned.

Also the 12 month time frame is too long...Have it for 6 months with a sign up fee of $40.00 or so, that way people will not be afraid to commit because a year sounds too long.

Good Luck!

My 1st salon was paying it's bills right from the start but I worked all the hours with no pay. Give them one free sample if they buy tanning. Explain the importance of using lotion at that time. Tanning salons close down all the time and some people have been burned - they may not want to commit until they are comfortable with your equipment and that you'll still be around. Have your yearly affordable plan but offer something shorter for somewhat more money - possibly with an incentive to convert their membership to your $19.95 once they've had a chance to try it.
