I am still on the card system, It has its good points and its bad. We have the customers card pulled before they walk to the counter and have a second to chit chat with them, more than one of us can have a card pulled and initialed at the same time instead of one at a time, waiting to get in the beds. I know that you can track more sales and visits with the computer, and the risk of employee theft would be hugely reduced. I plan on becoming computerized, just have not had the funds for that yet.

THIS IS EXACTLY why I GOT OUT of the computer biz. People think they are getting a "deal" when they buy a PC for $300.

There's a reason the PCs are $300. Cause they SUCK. They are COMPLETELY unstable after only a few months and then people call some 3rd world country for help that consists of "refreshing" the harddrive for ANY problem.

Donkey Caca.

Converting from cards to PC is MUCH MORE INVOLVED than calling Dell for the deal of the week (trust me the catelog is IN FRONT OF ME and I've ALMOST fallen for it) as that's nothing more than IMEDIATE GRATIFICATION.

You have to have backups, high speed connection, expensive software that costs MORE than the PC itself.

I DO feel that it's better in the long run to be computerised but it's up to the salon owner to make the decision when it's the correct time to do so.

I have to echo your thoughts on cheap computers...they are disposible machines now. Yes you can spend 400.00 on a PC, and most likely replace it next year. On the other hand, I bought a 3,000.00 system (386, high end) in 1990 and it still works as well today as it did in '90s...Just one of many systems...
