Rep Power: 0 | My husband and I are looking into starting a tanning salon; however, I'm concerned that by the time we do all of our research, get financing, a location, buildout...and ready to open the doors, it'll be the end of the season (August or September). Will this kill our business from the start? |

Rep Power: 21 | I basically did the same thing. I started my biz in December, --talk about off season!! But honestly, I'm glad I did it. I had plenty of time to work out any kinks, prepare for unseen obstacles, etc. If you can make the rent, I wouldn't be too discouraged, it may work to your benefit! |

Rep Power: 22 | What CS is talking about is buildout time.. Own landlord gave us 3 months, which is the normal time frame, normally you can be done with all the needs by the 2nd month and will have one month to make some money. Yes the out of season will be slow, so you will have to do more for advertising. Just make sure you have some capital locked back to pay the bills the months before season begins. |

Rep Power: 21 | Unfortunately in order to get the space you are looking for you may have to take it when it is available. In the negotiation process you can do a certain amount of stalling as well as negotiating a favorable lease that will buy you some time. There is a great deal more expense each month than rent that must be considered. There is only so much business that can be generated during certain times of the year when you have just opened, however if you do all of the right type of advertising it will carry you. There are very specific programs and procedures that can be followed that will insure your greatest opportunity for success. Also keep in mind that opening 2 or 3 months before the busy season will generate a much more profitable busy season than if you open at the start of the busy season. What you do during the active time of year will determine how well you will do during the typical slower times. |
