I am supposed to sign a lease this week. I am seriously considering opening a small spa, my main service will be one spray tanning machine. Theres also a Hollywood Tan opening around the corner . . . .

Rent alone is close to 4000 a month. I will not hire anyone, I will run the shop myself. I want it to be a retreat where people can relax and get their sunless tan. Service will be exceptional:)
Do you think 350-400 tans a month in a metropolitan area is realistic?
Any thoughts are much appreciated.

You think you can pay $4000 per month rent plus other bills and make a profit off of one sunless machine??????

Good Luck!!!!

Thats what I want to make sure. If I can do an average of 350 tans a month at $40 each, that leaves plenty of profit. Do you think this unrealistic?

I guess only you know what your market will support. For me, here, it is very unrealistic.

What else will you offer to draw customers in? Will people pay $40 a pop for your spray on, 10 of them per day? How will you bring them in?

They are not going to pay $40 to you with a HT down the street for WAY cheaper. And why the heck are you planning on this one booth being your main source of income if you are going to have an entire spa at $4K/month rent? A spray-on booth takes up less than 100 sq.ft. What are you doing with the rest of it? And BTW, you will need one person full-time just to show people how to properly use the booth. You being alone is VERY unrealistic. Either sales will suffer, or you will not be able to properly instruct customers on how to use the unit, which means a higher % of bad results and therefore less repeat sales.

You might want to rethink a few things about this plan...

Actually Carla, HT is NOT much cheaper here at all. I said I will be running the shop, I didnt say I would be alone - I have free help. Also, in the near future I will have additional services and/or products but not initially.
