Rep Power: 0 | I'm in the works of researching and starting a tanning business as soon as possible. I've been looking into going on my own and possible franchises. Any recommendations or benefits to going solo vs franchising? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to make a wrong decision and regret it. |

Franchises can mandate the hours you are open, the products you sell, etc. I do think that they can be very beneficial in respect to advertising and already having a brand out there. The ones that I have seen require quite a bit of money just to get started. I would rather use that cash to make my own way. I think that an individual can do just as good of a job depending on your area's competition and demographics. I am sure there are going to be many different opinions. Just make sure you read ALL of the fine print before signing on the dotted line! JK |

Rep Power: 0 | I agree with jungle kitty with starting your own business. From info I've gathered, franchises are expensive. With your business, you can do whatever with it. The main thing to start with is you are required to have lots and lots of patience, and you've got to be there for the client. |

Rep Power: 0 | Thank you Jungle Kitty and mae that really helps me in making my final decision. For someone who is brand new to the industry, my concerns are setting up the salon. There are so many things you need to know to make sure you make the right decision before opening, like electricity, beds, lotions, layout, business plans, etc. Is there anyone or a website that can help you setup your salon without going thru a franchise? Any little help would be extremely appreciated. _________________ [ This Message was edited by: Cely on 2003-04-10 07:25 ] |
