This may be a conversation that's already occurred, but I haven't found it yet, so...

I'm currently working on drafting some initial estimates for a rough business plan and am trying to be sure to factor as many costs as I can and even overestimate a little.

One thing that I've not found much information on is how often bulbs have to be changed in commercial beds. I can find pricing without a problem, but is there an average of how long to go before changing? I'm planning a salon starting out with 3-4 beds (in a small town, so that should be safe...and I've already got one!!) So I'm just trying to see a rough estimate of what to factor in there for bulbs - any info on the subject would be appreciated!

You should change out the lamps when they loose about 25-30% of their output. I think that is the right percent. But if you do not use a 5.0 meter change about every 500 or so hours. Most lamps claim 800 hours but I like to keep mine fresher than that. Heck I have probably trashed lamps that are better than some of the salons are using.

In the past I have only changed when it cracked or broke. But after being on the boards, I have learn that it may be better to do so more often. I am conducting my own little test right now with a couple of beds that have new acrylics to see if they need changing next lamp change or two. Have you done a search on this subject? I think I remember some good info. I will see if I can find it.

PastyWoman: ? You already have a salon? How often are you chaning the lamps there? How many tanners, how many hours per week/month? Use your existing salon as a guide for the new one..
