Rep Power: 23 | Mshallie - Please do a search in the newbies section. Most banks will not provide you with a loan for a tanning salon. They are considered high risk. If your funding is low you might want to consider buying an existing salon instead of starting from scratch. Also, check with the Small Business Administration. Equipment is purely a personal choice. Please read about the various types of equipment in the equipment/lamps forum. Your best bet is to attend a trade show to see the different types or travel around and check out different salons. What works well in one area may not work near as well in another. I cannot help with your question about being near the ocean. |

Rep Power: 23 | being near the ocean will not affect the salon at all, actually it might help it. I am right by the water myself, think of all the benefits, on tourists who stay on the water who go their to tan, the rainy days, the base tans, the possibilities are endless. I would look at the salons around, look at their equipment, try it out see what works best. Usually you can start of slow, minimum 4 beds, but leave yourself room to grow. It is better to expand to accomidate your clients. As chippp will agree make sure you have a booth, you will get those clients who will not tan in a bed, and you dont want to loose the sale to your competition. Hope that give you a heads up ! |

Rep Power: 0 | To give you my two cents worth. I would say depending upon the size of the city and/or area that you plan on placing your salon start off with no less than 5 and no more than 8. I do agree with the other posting here that reminds you to keep room open to expand. Inregards to the bed mix I would strongly suggest that you make sure you have an upgrade ladder in place. My suggestion is to have atleast one standup, one VHR lie down and 3 base beds. Another suggestion is to keep the base beds no less than 30 bulbs and watch out for the length. If you can get it as long as possible. If you would like some help with layout and startup drop me an email. Take Care Lindsay **Your tanning salon specialist** |
